Take him to the doctor.
It could be asthma, it could be he's out of shape, it could be more serious.
Only a doctor will be able to tell for sure.
my 15 yr old son who plays baseball occasionally has shortness of breath and slight chest pain

Have a doctor check him out.
Every so often you hear of a previously undetected heart or valve problem in a young athlete and the first indication of it is sudden death.
Even if it turns out to be nothing, find out just for peace of mind.
Yes he needs to be seen to determine if it's exercise-induced asthma (which can cause tightness in the chest) or something involving his heart (as others have said, there are plenty of stories of even young people with a heart issue), or something else. Maybe it's something that can be easily managed, but you need to know the cause. I imagine they will do some tests, probably including walking on a treadmill. Don't go to the ER, but call as soon as the doctor's office opens and make an appointment. In the meantime, I would have him avoid sports. I'm a big believer in using natural means when possible to manage a whole range of health problems including asthma, but I think you have to do some testing first. Don't panic but don't delay.
Make him an appointment and when you go, ask for a referral to a pediatric cardio. If nothing is wrong, then you wasted an hour or so that day. But then ago, peace of mind is not a waste. I have made an appt for one of my girls. She has complained of chest "pain" like her heart is beating too fast and feeling like she cannot breathe . Whenever we go to the doc and ask about it, she tests fine. So I am going to insist on an EKG just to make sure. The reason I say insist is because when kids always check out fine at regular checkups, these things are contributed to stress because they are so young.
Does he play baseball occasionally?
Or does he have occasional shortness of breath and slight chest pain?
He needs to be evaluated by a Physician. It could be health related, it could be anxiety related.
This is not something I would wait on. I'm not sure it warrants an ER trip, but I would call Monday and get him an appt his regular Dr ASAP.
Definitely time to see the doctor.
Doctor. My husband has exercise induced asthma. It's not bad, but you do want to check this out to be able to control it.
He was still able to play football, etc., just had to be careful.
this is a question for the doctor.....not for us. Peace.....
