Hi ladies, hoping someone can let me know what to expect. With this pregnancy (I'm 24 weeks) I have had terrible constipation and hemorrhoids from day 1- in fact that's one reason I "knew" I was pregnant before I really "knew"! I finally got the constipation under control by upping fiber and water intake, but the 'rhoids just keep at it. I sit all day at the office and am sure that is contributing. I didn't have this issue with my first pregnancy- or actually ever before in my life! I finally broke down and bought some Tucks pads today at Walgreens. What can I expect? It says I can use them up to 6x per day, so that's encouraging. Will there be immediate relief? Will it take a week or two? Sorry, but I gotta know! I have HAD IT with the pain and discomfort!!!

What can I do next?

So sorry you're having this, mama! Have you been to the doctor since they started? If not, go ahead and call the nurse and ask her to ask the doctor what you can do.

There are some really good medicines (prescription strength) for this. But the doctor will know what you can and can't use during pregnancy. The Tucks pads will help a little, but not a lot. Basically, it's witchhazel.

I really think that the doctor can help you more than the Tucks pads...

Sorry to tell you but the only absolute cure for this is giving birth - and even then the problem might persist until you get some surgery for it.
Hemorrhoids are varicose veins of the rectum.
The pressure is only going to get worse and Tucks, witch hazel, Preparation H, etc are only going to give you temporary relief.
You're going to need a sitz bath and possibly an inflatable donut to sit on.
At least you've got less than 20 weeks to go!

Well, I have suffered from constipation before, during and after pregnancies. I've only used Tucks to clean and wipe with after a bowel movement. They only relieve some of the itchiness and sooth if there is swelling.

My biggest and most helpful recommendation is that you absolutely must learn to manage your constipation on a daily basis. The most common approach is to add lots of fibre and drink a lot of fluids. Everyone normally has one sort of fruit that helps ease things along For me, it's grapes. They work really well and are so healthy. Try all the Fibre cereals and see if there is one that does the trick.

The better you get your bowels operating, the less you'll need OTC remedies.

I used them with both pregnancies. Theyre cooling in the area and help if it's itchy. Sometimes at night I'd take a warm bath (also helps), then tuck one in there for awhile. For me, a combination of kegels, warm baths, tucks pads, and time made it go away. Good luck and congrats!
