Hi, Mommas!

We recently had our daughter evaluated for a speech delay and she qualified for services through Early Intervention. We are considering also checking into private speech therapists as well since our insurance will cover most of the costs. (BTW, I thought the speech therapist who did our evaluation was wonderful and likely the one who gets matched up with us will be as well... We are just looking into options.) We are in Carol Stream - would anyone have any recommendations for a speech therapist for our 22 month daughter? She has delays in her expressive speech due to low muscle tone in her tongue/mouth.

Thanks in advance!
K.

If your going through Early Intervention, you would have a Speech Therapist through their services. My daughter was in EI @ age 16 mos. for speech & had a wonderful therapist. I opted to not go through my insurance, as therapist's can be very expensive & the cost through EI was based on our income & much more reasonable. Also, you really need to find the 'right fit' as far as therapist's go, one that works really well with your daughter & that she's comfortable with. Don't be afraid to speak up if you get a therapist that isn't a good fit for your daughter and her needs. You will see her excel with the 'right' therapist! :-) Good luck to you!!

Communication Clubhouse was super helpful to us with our daughter (in Downers Grove).

I also have a great CD to recommend that helped with low muscle tone. It's called "Speechercise" and you can find it on Amazon.com or maybe at your local library. We used it in addition to speech therapy and my daughter really liked doing the exercises. Good luck!

Pediatric Place in Naperville, Rainbow Center in Aurora, Easter Seals in Villa Park all offer these services. Good luck!
