Spinoff on Powerball Question

I didn't answer the other question, but if it were 10 or more years ago I would have said that I wouldn't want to quit my job. Now I'm close enough to retirement that I would go ahead so that we could travel more. I'm About 9 years away from retirement which really doesn't seem that far off. I will be able to retire at 53.

Anyway, I teach high school AP English and find it to be extremely fulfilling. I love my students, and it's never boring! :)

If I did quit I wouldn't sit at home. I would travel and would volunteer.

Some people think quitting their job means doing nothing.
To me - it means doing what I want to do when I want to do it and not catering to anyone else s schedule.
It means I get to wake up when I want, go to bed when I want, take a class if I feel like it, go beach combing on the spur of the moment, go to renaissance fairs, etc.

My job is running our company with my husband. We built this company and I'm very proud of it. Every hour of work I put into it builds our equity.

I would not just drop it. My daughter is in college now studying business, she shadows me on the financial part if the job as I do everything a CFO would do and she shadows hubby with sales calls, market forecasting, pricing analysis and transportation.

She has a choice when she graduates with MBA to own her own company or work for someone else. She does want to work for a large company in order to get a feel for how business is run somewhere else so she is not so naive to think everything we do to run our company is perfectly. Every successful company has something special that turns it into gold!!

If we won the big one, that would be wonderful because we'd add to our company, we are actually in planning and forecasting of building our own plant right now. So we'd move forward with our company in the North TX area and add people to the workforce.

Maybe we would not work so hard because we'd hire people but still we'd be proud to be making our company stronger than it is now. Last year profits were up about 27% over 2013 and so far in 2015 we've exceeded that profit from 2014.

I do work from home, get up when I choose and work in my office at home when I choose. It's a good life!

So a power ball would be an added bonus to help many others as well!!

I have a hard time describing my job. My degrees are in accounting and information technology management. I do a lot of data work and cost accounting, forensic accounting, and straight up internal audit. Everything I do is on a computer so Wednesday I got into a car accident, only delayed me 30 minutes for the tow and then I just worked remotely until I could get in the office.

It is that flexibility that I am unwilling to give up. Kind of a cake and eat it deal because I can be there whenever my kids need me but I earn pretty well.

On top of that my youngest is 13 so what am I going to do, retire for four years until she goes away from college and then be bored out of my mind?

Marda, I have four weeks vacation for starters and I can work on vacation if I feel like it. So travel is not an issue. It is just a great job,

On, my coworkers are for the most part fine, I have one loon down the hall but she makes for interesting stories. I only answer to our COO and the board and all of them are professionals who don't do that silly stuff some employers do.

It is just that perfect job that I am not so willing to give up.

High school/middle school teacher. It's very rewarding. I've done the SAHM thing and I'm done with being at home.

I want to travel as well, but I will do that when I'm not teaching. I need to feel like I'm contributing to the world, not simply recreating.

Good question. I, too, wonder how their job job could be more interesting than using that money to explore the world (my interest) or to do the things they haven't had enough money to do.

I do think that some of the responses to keep working is an effort to Give them time to adjust to the win and figure out what they want to do.

I was a police officer. I did take a leave so that I could travel across the country. The transition was easy. As an officer responsibilities are mostly completed day by day with little carry over to the weeks/months ahead. Another officer could easily take my place.

I would love to finish my college education and work for some time in a field I really enjoyed BUT to be in a higher position where I could really make a lot of change.

I also wouldn't rule out having a business if I found it fun but we could live off any sort of additional income and it would make our lives so much easier.

I have stayed home for several years and have zero interest in home schooling the kids. I can't imagine anything worse. I am glad when they go off to school in the morning...lol. They enjoy their friends and school and so much of their day. They're glad to come home and spend time together. They miss being home and that's good. That gives them knowledge of what it's like to not be here so they appreciate it more.

Hubby and I were talking last night about how we could hit our retirement goal early. I long for him to be home. I wish we could go buy a house on a small farm and just live, exploring our interests, playing, etc. There are so many things I want to learn, so many books to read, and never enough time.

I stay home and homeschool too. I kind of had my dream "job," but it didn't work with having a family. Now I dream about long, carefree days with hubby home with me and the kids.

I'd quit my job.
Spend more quality time w/my loved ones.
Use the money to pay off my families' mortgages etc.
Travel w/my family.
But basically just enjoy each day w/o having to be away from my kids &
husband. Sure we'd need to spend some time apart but just be together.
Life is short.....enjoy each & every moment.

I'm just not interested in being a full-time housewife.

My terms for quitting my job would be that we could all quit. Anything under $5 mil would eventually wind up putting us in a bad situation down the road.

My husband is in a job where he can quit and he will usually get called back or can put the word out that he needs to go back to work. So, he could actually take a break and go back later. I would expect, as he gets older that won't be an option. He is good at sales and at making a profitable margin.

My job is a little different. In my position, they would hire someone else, invest in that person, and likely keep them. It would take me years of applying, interviewing, and testing to get back into making good money again. So even being hired to get my foot in the door, would mean an application, interview, and test to get to the next level.

So going to work just means going to work. It wouldn't make sense to quit or accept less hours. However, it would mean moving toward retirement a little sooner for both of us.

Winning a large amount of money would mean not having the stress of working to pay the "bills", but working toward a nicer future.
