My oldest never spit-up. My youngest would spit up anytime I nursed her and put her down before burping her--which happens when you have other stuff to deal with! She never seemed bothered by it, and once she started gaining weight, it never slowed. It usually goes away once they start sitting up. You can try holding the baby upright for 15 minutes after nursing to allow all of the milk to settle while the bubbles rise to the top--can help to lessen the spitting-up, but doesn't work for every baby.

Hi A.,

You will probably hear this over and over again... as long as your baby is gaining weight spitting up is only a laundry issue. It will decrease in time when your little one matures.

Best of luck!

he's having acid reflux, I suppose. Give him babies magic tea to soothe from tummy troubles. It's a natural tea to comfy newborns from reflux without any harm.

Hi A.,
I had the same problem with my daughter. The excessive spitting up started when she was about 2 weeks old. She was fussy and also had really bad baby acne and cradle cap. I stopped eating dairy (I'm breastfeeding) and 10 days later her face and head cleared up and she stopped spitting up and was a lot less fussy.
She is almost 9 months old now and I can eat dairy again. I haven't tried to give her dairy yet though. I don't know why not eating dairy helped but it did. I would suggest eliminating things from your diet that could be suspect and give it enough time to really clear your system.

Both my kids spit up all the time and were very healthy and above average in weight. My 4 month old is just start to get a little better. I think the spitting up is partially an intolerance to dairy or she is overfeeding. My doctor told me if she is spitting up a lot it is probably overfeeding and to nurse her on one side for only 5 minutes and then let her eat as long as she wants on the other side. This actually did work. I also tried to get rid of dairy (especially ice cream) and that helped a lot. Have you tried gripe water? It helps with spitting up, gas and fussiness.

Hi A.,
My son is 9 weeks old and about 2 weeks ago, he started doing the same exact thing. I took him to the Dr. as I thought he was vomiting and the dr. said the same thing as all the other Mamas have said. As long as he is gaining weight and generally a happy baby, I shouldnt be too concerned.
The spitting up was an issue mostly for me becuase I thought my son would get hungrier sooner and I am trying to get him on a feeding schedule of every 3 hours (vs. 2 hours). So, I still wanted to try things to reduce the amount of spitting up. A friend told me dairy in my diet was causing it. I have not had dairy in the last 3 days and he has stopped spitting up as much. Its a considerable difference. Hope this helps.

I don't have anything new to add. My daughter spits up a lot after each feeding. She spits up to three times after a feeding and sometimes it was so much that I wondered if she was vomiting.

My pediatrician suggested burping her and propping her up on a Boppy pillow for 15 mins. after each feeding. Most importantly, she said it's of no concern as long as the baby keeps gaining weight.

I think every baby is individual and the spitting up is probably normal. As long as your baby isn't losing weight, I think he's fine. Take care!

Some babies are just that way.

My son spit up for many months. I don't remember when he outgrew it.

I remember that I used to nurse just one side (alternating with each feeding) and that that seemed to help. I had gallons of milk and I seemed to overfill him.

As long as your little one is gaining weight and not seeming distressed, I don't think it's anything to worry about.
