Hi, my 5.5 month old spits up every time she is on her tummy. It could be hours from when she last ate and she still spits up. Any ideas why?

Thanks!

Good Morning H.,

I don't know. But I'm always suspicious about allergies. I was collicy and had breathing problems as a baby. The doctors said I was fine. But my mother says she had a hard time with me. Turns out 37 years later, I find out that I'm allergic to milk prodcuts and soy products. So what's in the formual? Simple. I was having trouble as an infant because I was allergic to what my mother was giving me.

NAET.com is a group of allergists around the world who eliminate allergies. You may want to have your baby tested for food allergies just to have the knowledge. The fee for testing is free or is nominal depending on the allergist. I have been seeing an NAET allergist for a few months and my allergies are being eliminated and my health is improving.

Hi H.,

If you google "chiropractic and reflux", you can find info on treating this.

My sons chiropractor treats infants for reflux and colic, and within a few treatments, their nervous system begins to react the way it should. He has had amazing results.

I hear this is really common, but still most people don't consider chiropractic care.

I hope this helps

They just do, no big deal, just keep a burp cloth under her so you don't stain your carpet.

my son was a spit up monster when he was new. Once we started baby food and cereal that was less and less of a problem. Since your baby is old enough, you might want to start giving her cereal in the morning and/or night time.

Is she formula or breastfed? If she is formula fed it takes HOURS for it to digest as it is not a natural food product. With the pressure of being on her belly that basically pushes it forward.
Otherwise I'm thinking maybe there might be a lot more gas in the way... or air that she swallowed?

My baby had the same problem. I finally experimented with my diet (I was breastfeeding) and when I took out dairy he stopped entirely. In fact if he spit up I knew that there had been some dairy that made it's way into my food (I had housemates who all cooked together and dairy would slip in my meals from time to time. But it was truly amazing to see the difference my diet affected him. Maybe your baby has a sensitivity or allergy to something you are eating (or formula if you aren't breastfeeding).
Hope this helps.

My first baby spit up all the time, and it was always a sure thing if he was on his tummy. My mom (mom of 7)reassured me that it was completely normal (and the doctor never expressed concern). He is perfectly healthy, growing and eating well, and about to turn 4 years old, and he still throws up rather easily. Just the other day I accidentally put a little pressure on his tummy when I leaned over him, and up came a little bit of his last meal! It has happened a handful of times in the last couple of years. It doesn't bother him, though it is a bit gross, but it's just one of those things!
