Spitting Up - Pocatello,ID

Hi Moms! My son is just over 2 months old and he spits up soooo much! He is healthy... it doesn't seem to bother him that he spits up and he's gaining weight like crazy! My older son was the same way when he was a baby and we just had to wait it out. Cutting things out of my diet doesn't do a thing to help, and I've tried all the recommended remedies (upright position, feed less more often, etc.) and I guess I'm just wondering if anyone has done something that worked better. Does Gripe water help with this? Is there medicine out there that might help? What else can I do? I'm tired of getting soaked after every feeding!!!!

What can I do next?

I know how you feel - I used to get soaked with spit up. My son was also showing discomfort while eating (not when spitting up), and it turned out he had acid reflux. He is 8 months now and is still taking baby Zantac. I tried to take him off of the meds, but he kept spitting up, and since he is crawling, the spit up was all over the house. You might ask your ped about that just in case. We also starting rice cereal at 4 months and that seemed to help, not stop it, but help. My husband said that he will be so happy for the day that we don't have to deal with a spitting baby anymore. I feel your pain.

I had a couple of kids like that, one in particular would leave puddles if I was holding her away from me. They grow out of it so if your doctor isn't concerned, carry a hand towel or two with you (they are much better than birp cloths, and you can get nice looking ones) and don't worry about it. If you do formula it helps to add a little baby rice but I always breastfeed so that is never helpful to me (just to a little one I babysat) enjoy! Amy

If he's happy and growing well, you're probably going to have a hard time getting a doctor to prescribe something. It's also very expensive. We've used Prevacid and now use Zantac for 2 kids. Also, our doctor likes Axid. I do know there's two diagnoses for reflux. One is actually reflux and is treated. The other is a "happy spitter". Our first son was that. I know the spitting up is horrible. We're really enjoying having a baby we can feed with out a burp cloth! It's a first in 3! If you want something more natural, we also like mangosteen juice. I can recommend a couple of effective brands, if you're interested. It does stain horribly, so if it doesn't work, it can be bad. It mostly worked for our kids, but we just don't have the time to deal with mail order type stuff. It's now available in store, I just haven't gotten around to doing it. Congratulations!

Does he seem fussy when laying down flat? It could be reflux, which my daughter had at this age. I had to finallys put her on Zantac per the Peditrician then put her on predigested formula. It sounds like he is doing great with weight gain. I would talk to your Peditrician first.
Make sure he burps frequently IN between feedings, feed for a few minutes then burp, some kids get more gas then others.
Also you can try mylicon before you feed him to help him burp more easily during the feedings.
I was on bread and water with my daughter for a long while as she spit up constantly but also was fussy with her tummy issues, finally they put her on Nutramigen and it was a miracle. If your son just has burping, spitting up issues I would say try just burping more often.
