I am just 4 weeks pregnant, this is my third. This morning 5/17, when I went to the bathroom I wiped and it had a little bit of brown/redish discharge on it. It isn't much either just a small amount. I never had this with my other pregnancies. So just new with all of this. It has happened several times today and just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this. I have no cramping. Last night and today I have been dizzy but I figured it was just because I didn't take my blood pressure medicine. I did call my doctor to make an appt but they were already gone for the afternoon. So I left a message. Just want to get some opinions from other moms out there.

Well my blood was a lot more pinkish red this morning 5/18, with clots on the tissue. My doctors office called I told them of the new things going on but she just sent me to the lab to get blood drawn. And that was it. My blood now throughout the day is now dark red with a lot more clots in the toilet and on the tp. I went to the store today and decided to get a pregnancy test well it showed up not pregnant. I called my doctor and told them and she just said the doctor isn't in and if cramps or bleeding get worst go to the er. I am assuming that I am going through a miscarriage. I am just confused and upset. I really wish my doctor would have seen me. I know that probably wouldn't have made a difference. I will get my results on Monday and she said they will call me when they get them.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well I heard from the dr today 5/21. She gave me my results back from the blood work which I already knew. She just verified that yes I did have a miscarriage but luckily I was very very early into the pregnancy. And this will not effect or give us any higher of a risk for the next one. I honestly was not in pain or much bleeding. I had some discomfort but nothing extreme. She gave us the go ahead to start trying in a month. Thank you all for your advice, comments and experience.

Hey K. - I had the same experience in my first few months of pregnancy and I have always had high blood pressure too, altho that didn't have anything to do with it - the spotting can be perfectly normal, or it could be something else. If it's just an isolated thing, and goes away right away, it's usually safe to assume it's normal, but with me it went on for a full day and my OB told me to go to the ER just to have it checked since I was a high risk and have had a history of miscarriages. Everything was fine, but they did take ultrasounds just to make sure.

I hope you changed your blood pressure medication recently. I have been on them all my life, but when I was pregnant, had to go on a completely different sort of medication during pregnancy.

Good luck - hope everything turns out to be okay!

The same thing happened to me, I had bleeding with my first pregnancy at 4 months along and lost the baby.. I got pregnant with my second one and around 11 weeks I started bleeding pretty heavy and we were worried that I would lose the baby.. I went into the dr's office to be checked out and they did an ultrasound and everything turned out to be just fine.. They told me that the bleeding could have been from sex.. It turns out that bleeding a little bit is pretty common, sounds like you arent really bleeding like I was so you are probably fine..

I would definitely get checked being that it is happening so frequently. They say a little brownish spotting, esp. when lying down and then standing up, is just a little old blood (baby pops blood vessels to feed until the umbilical cord is up and running). As for me, spotting was always bad. I'm Rh- and with my second child, they didn't give me my Rhogam shot saying that everything was okay even though I ASKED! (didn't know enough at the time to insist). Needless to say, a week later I vomited like the poltergyst and lost the baby. I'm hoping that this isn't your situation, but I would get checked and look for outside info on what might be happening. What to expect when you're expecting was always a good ref. book for me. good luck!

I spotted with my second and now with my 3rd, but my spotting didn't start till I was 6 weeks, and with both of them they did an ultrasound at 8 weeks and found that where the placenta was attaching to the uterus there was a little blood clot.
Spotting at 4 weeks may just be implantation bleeding? Call your OB back again and they'll probably just tell you to keep an eye on it. If it gets bright red or is enough to cover a panty liner (put one in now) then they'll want to see you, otherwise just watch it. It can also be caused by intercourse, if you've had some receintly.

I had that with my first pregnancy and not to scare you but I ended up miscarying. But I have also heard that can happen and the doc will put you on bed rest for a few weeks and see what happens. So just make sure you contact your doc first thing on monday and take it easy this weekend. I hope all is well, and let me know what you find out.

Best regards,
L.

I hope someone told you to get in bed!! If you ever suspect that you are threatening to miscarrage, you should put yourself on bedrest until you know FOR SURE! I feel bad for you!It is scarry!!I had a scare with my first. I was at Walmart and noticed a ton of blood on my shorts, and I went home right away and called the doctor hysterical. He told my to wait an hour and if the bleeding didn't stop or at least slow down drastically to go to the ER. Well it was a happy ending, because my little boy is 9 now. So keep your chin up! I wish you the best!!

i totally understand how terrifying that can be! i had this during my first trimester, although mine was almost into my second trimester. i rushed to the e.r. and was told that it didn't look like i was miscarrying, but to go home and take it easy just in case. i never had any more bleeding after that day and went on to deliver a beautiful, healthy little boy. i do know that it is not uncommon at 4 weeks to spot a little (right about the time your period would have been). the brown blood suggests that it is old blood, which is not a huge concern. if it turns bright red or if you have any cramping, i would get to a dr. or e.r. immediately! i would definitely make an appt. with your ob just so they know what is going on. i wish you all the best sweetie!!!

Hi K.!
Try to get a hold of your OB right away and explain the situation to them. I miscarried with my first pregnancy and with that I was spotting, bleeding, then cramping and eventually lost the baby. Everything was great with my second pregnancy. With my third pregnancy, I did spot. I was concerned that I was going to have another miscarriage, but I had no cramping or any other symptoms. The dr seen me pretty quickly due to my situation, but said I could not get an ultrasound until 6 weeks because that is about the time they could pick up the heart. So I had to wait for a little over a week in anxiousness. But to my relief when I turned 6 weeks and got the transvaginalultrasound everything was fine and it turned out to be "implantation bleeding". Prior to that I never heard of it so I freaked out to see spotting. Now I have my baby girl here with me and she is 8 months now. The spotting stopped after a couple of weeks and everything was just perfect. I'm sure you know this but if you start to experience any other symptoms go to the ER and get checked. I know another thing the dr will have to rule out is having a vaginal infection as well.
I wish you well. If you have any more questions please feel free to ask. ;)

That happened to me six weeks into my first pregnancy. I totally freaked out and went strait to the ER. They took some blood, urine sample, did an internal, and an ultrasound. Luckily it really wasn't anything. Apparently this can happen and for some pregnancies is considered normal. They gave me some papers on miscarriages (what to look out for, ect). After that episode it never happened again. I hope this puts your mind at ease a bit. You could always get it checked out, it will make you feel much better! Take care and get some rest. Try not to stress! :)

I know what you are going threw. I am 4 and 1/2 months pregnant with my second. I had the same problem. I had some spotting at first no big deal, right?? Well I called my doc just in case and he said to just take it easy and if it gets so bad that I needed a pad then to give him a call. Well the spotting continued for a couple of days but not heavy. The after a couple days of that I started bleeding heavy like if I was on my period. I called the doc and he told me keep my legs up and if I started to get heavier to go to the E.R. but if I was the same to call the office in the morning. I was the same so I called the office and got an appt. They did an emergancy ultrasound and found that everything was fine. The doc explained that what could have happened was that some women get like blood clots and bleed for a few days.... some even for a month or so. He said as long as it's not so heavy that you need to change a pad every 1-2 hhrs and I don't have cramps then everything should be fine.
After that I felt pretty good but I KNOW how NERVE RECKING it is to not know what's going on. Just take a deep breath and try to relax. All freaking out will do is make u stress and that puts stress on the baby. I would just make sure to call the doc and let him know what's going on.
Sorry I made this so long but i thought u would like to know what happened to me and that way u know ur not the only one that goes threw this. Good luck and please let me know what happens. Good Luck :-)

This happened to me with my son. I got pretty nervous because I had experienced a miscarriage prior to this pregnancy. The spotting, however, never went beyond being a brownish/pinkish discharge. It started when I was about 5 or 6 weeks along, and didn't stop until I was about 9 weeks. Everything turned out fine. When I had the miscarriage before getting pregnant with my son, the bleeding progressed within a few days from light to heavy with big clots.

I hope everything turns out to be ok for you!

I just wanted to add that I have read a few of the other reposnses to your post, and I get the impression from some of the other women that there might be something that you can do to prevent a miscarriage. While I don't claim to be an expert, it was explained to me by my OB when I misscarried that there was nothing I could have done to prevent what happened. There was something wrong with the pregnancy and my body recongnized that and did what it needed to do. Of course see your doctor if you start to bleed more heavily, but know there is nothing that can prevent it. I really hope everything turns out ok for you!

At 4 weeks, I spotted lightly for a week. My doctor said that sometimes your body mimics the period you should be having. I was fine and delivered my son without incident. However, I would suggest you rest with your feet up as much as possible until you can see your doctor. Good luck!

Hey K.,

I would just call the Dr's office and let them advise you on what to do. Spotting early in pregnancy is fairly common, it is sometimes just implantation bleeding, or also caused by sex. You need to be more concerned if the bleeding becomes heavy or is bright red. Try to rest as much as possible, and if nothing else seeing your ob will give you peace of mind in reassuring you that everything is okay. Good Luck!!!

K., I don't want to scare you, but my experinces with spotting have both been negative. I have been pregnant a total of 4 times, 2 ended in miscarrage around the 8th week. I started with some minimal spotting (it was dark red, not the bright red) so the doctor wasn't concerned at first, but I lost both babies that I spotted with. I didn't have any cramping (but I've never really had cramps with my periods either)My other 2 pregnacies I didn't have any spotting. Now my aunt on the other hand spotted a little with her second baby and she and the baby were fine. So I'd say get into the doctor as soon as you can all you can do it wait it out, I wish you the best.

I didn't know I was pregnant with my 2nd until around 9 wks, but I had gotten - what I THOUGHT was my period around 4-5 wks. I basically spotted for 3 days. I thought it was weird that it was so light & short, but I didn't do anything different (cuz of course I didn't know I was pregnant) & had a healthy baby. Just try to take it easy & try not to stress - & let us all know how things go. I'll keep you in my prayers.

Hi K.!!! I'm going to tell you what I just had to experience this week:
Last week (wednesday 05-09-07) I found out I was 5 weeks pregnant with my 3dr child. The week before that I realized I was spotting (week No. 4) but since I did not know I was pregnant I did not think too much about it.
Last friday (05-11-07) I saw my OB just to make sure everything was fine, and he told me to stop taking my medicine for high blood presure which I did.
Sunday night (mother's day) I started to cramp, but nothing really important as far as the pain level.
Monday morning (05-14-07) around 7:00 am I started to feel bad (cramping again) and at 9:00 am I started to bleed (just like a period) my husband took me to the ER.....and the result of all that is that I lost the baby.

All I can tell you is make sure you tell your Dr. everything as far as pain level, or anything you are feeling and think he should now.
I did not think the spotting was important (of course I had no idea I was pregnat) but today I wish I knew about it, because I did a lot of activities, I did travel as well...I did not slow down AT ALL!!! so relax if you can, and TALK TO YOUR DR.

I was not sure about telling you what just happened (sp?) to me this week....I do not want you to be scared....but I feel it is VERY IMPORTANT SOME TIMES TO SLOW DOWN, and I wanted to shared that with you. Everybody is different, and each pregnacy is different as well, so just keep that in mind.
In my case I do not know if my high blood pressure had something to do with the miscarried (sp again!!!)...since I did not have that problem with my other 2 pregnancies.

I wish you and your family THE BEST :) and remember to see your Dr. as soon as possible.
Marisela
