N.S.
I had a similar experience. I do not have PCOS, but I do have fertility issues (a genetic blood disorder) that made achieving pregnancy difficult. After both miscarriages, and births, I had very irregular periods, though I was very regular before I started a family.
In between babies, I too had spotting, and sometimes very long cycles, and sometimes very short ones. I soon found out I had a hormone imbalance and vitamin deficiency from all of the pregnancies. In some women, regaining a regular cycle after birth can take many months, and sometimes years. I'm happy to say, I'm now back to my old self, thanks to the help a fertility specialist.
Upon the recommendation of a friend, I went to a fertility specialist (Dr. Mary Paquette)at AAFLA clinic in White Bear Lake for a full fertility evaluation. I was not going there to achieve pregnancy(which is their specialty) but was hoping to find out the cause of my irregular cycles, including spotting and was told they could help with this as well.
The staff there was magnificient. This clinic specializes in a method of natural Infertility treatment called the "Creighton" method. The method combines, nutrition, natural hormone therapies, and natural family planning to both achieve and avoid pregnancy. The additional benefit of this sort of fertility treatment is that it helps women to effectively address other female issues including PCOS, endometriosis, fibroids, hormone issues, perimenopause, and menopause, etc. This is possible because all of these issues are inter-related with fertility.
Until I had a full evaluation done at this clinic, my regular OB/Gyn missed all sorts of things that were causing spotting, longer cycles, and other symptoms.
At AAFLA, they did a physical, a full blood workup, checking for genetic issues, vitamin and mineral deficiencies that affect cycles, including blood tests that measure hormone levels at all stages of your monthly cycle. From all of this, they came back with a prescribed regimen that would balance hormone levels (using natural not synthetic hormones) vitamins, diet, and other natural methods. They were so thorough, they discovered the cause of my miscarriages(this undiagnosed blood disorder) and also the cause of my mid cycle spotting (a hormone imbalance which is common after child birth in many women).
I've never felt better since. I have no problems anymore. I can't promise they can do this for you, but since I've been to the clinic, everyone I know who has been there or received treatment there has had incredible recovery and success. I highly recommend it.
