Anyone recommend, advise against, or have any tips? I am considering a spray tan for two upcoming family weddings and trip to Mexico. The winter has not been good to my color, i don't have time to sit in a tanning bed, but would like a little glow. Not sure I am going to ever tan in a tanning bed again anyhow- bad experience, plus the obvious- not being good for me.

What can I do next?

Your local hairdresser/spa may have these suntan towels. They are absolutely the greatest. You just take the towel and do your face, arms, legs, whole body if you want or just some areas. $20 for 10 towels. Wish
I can remember the name. Actually I have to get some again. They come
in an orange and white box.

I did a spray tan last year for my sisters wedding, they had it scented and it didn't smell all that good. The tan was alright, not the greatest, the really bad thing is the shirt I wore the next day (it was August and I don't have AC in the car) and the spray tan ruined my shirt. Oh and it washes off way too easily, not worth the money for it.

buy a body exfoliator and shave before you get it done. Taking the dead skin off of your body will help it come out even and not patchy looking. Shaving is just common sense, dont want to shave the top layer of your spray tan off. But if you are going somewhere where there's going to be sun, I wouldnt recommend it, just get a tan when u get there! Who cares if u r pasty, a spray isnt going to get you any further ahead in the tan department once u start tanning....

I have done them and love them for the most part. You just have to be careful of how you apply the lotion before you tan to not get dark or blotchy patches. I would recommend just trying it once before you need it for a special occasion.

i got the coppertone gradual tan lotion and LOVE it. i also got a bit of natural color on my arms, back, and chest, from being outside, but my legs do NOT tan (and it's so annoying!) my legs look great (not super dark, just right) and the parts that were tan are even darker. it doesn't look orange at all, i am super happy with it. i have used lotions in the past and i turned orange or splotchy or streaky. that didn't happen at all. my friend said she has done spray tans (like in a booth, right?) and they weren't much different than the lotions, only it's hard to get them even. since i had such a good experience with the gradual tan lotion, i won't do anything else. (i've done tanning beds too, i won't go back now) i am super pale naturally so i don't get super dark, just enough to look healthy. i don't do the super dark fake bake coloring.

I have experience with Neutrogena spray from the drug store that you rub on yourself at home (about $10?) -- which frankly is somewhat better than my 3 experiences with spray tans at Planet Tan. They also sell some from department stores that are "supposed" to be better. Follow recommendations on label.

The medium level on the newest machine at Planet Tan didn't do well for me last week. Last year, I did it on the older "Versa" machine and I think it was better and its Medium wasn't as dark and uneven. Follow their recommendations but they will try to convince you to get 3-5 products right now because they are 25% off now, not later.

If it is too dark in some places, use soap and water and washcloth and scrub just a bit when you see it. Not the next day.

The same place sells a spray tan in a can for home use to "help even out" that tans immediately. I don't know if it lasts through a shower or not but it did have a great color and was pretty easy to apply evenly because you can see it immediately. It costs about $42 without a membership discount I believe.

I did a spray tan last spring for an upcoming weekend beach trip. It was alright, it ended up darker than I had asked for. However, I did something really stupid.....I got the tan about 3 days before we left and the night before I decided I didn't want to have to shave while we were away at the beach for the weekend so I decided to use Nair for the first time in my life. I followed the instructions and let it sit on my legs in the shower and when I went to wipe the cream off with all my hair (so I thought), it wiped off all my spray tan!!! I had no choice but to finish wiping it all off so I didn't have strange, striped legs. Needless to say, I went to the beach with tan arms and face but white legs! Don't do what I did:)
