I wanted to let Mom's know everywhere that I am having a Spring Fling! I am introducing my new business of Gourmet Candles and Bath Products. The Party is April 18, 7-9pm. I will provide food, games, prizes and a whole line of AWESOME products for yourself or as a gift to some one else. Here's the question, What are some quick recipes to serve because I do alot of these parties? Should it have a theme? Is 2 hours too long? I am new at these parties and want them to be a success AND fun.

One of my favorite quick makes is "pinwheels". They are very easy to make and wonderful to eat becareful not to get a tummy ace eating to many. :)
Pinwheels:
Use small or large flour tortillas
1 8ounce package of cream cheese
1 package of dry ranch dressing
one package of ham or turkey thin sliced lunch meat

Let the cream cheese, and flour tortillas sit out until room tempture. In a small bowl mix your cheese and ranch dressing until they are mixed well. Take flour tortilla and put on paper plate, this makes it easier to role and not stick to counter.Spread cheese mixture all over tortilla and place meat to cover cheese. Roll tightly and cut about 1 to 2 inches thick. Put in frig for about an hour to cool and eat when ready. I usually make up some extra cheese mixture and keep it in fridg for when unexpected company show up. The mixture will spread on about 4 to 6 large tortillas depending on how much you use. Depending on how large you cut them you can get about 6 to 8 pinwheels to one tortilla.

We have lady meetings all the time with my church. I always get LOTS of compliments on three things...
First- cucumber sandwhiches..get a piece of white bread and take off the crust..cut into 4 squares and put mayonaise on them..(I use real mayo due to my preferance)slice a cucumber up and put a piece on each bread slice then add Cavendars Greek seaoning on them..That's it and they are wonderful..
Second-sausage stars..cook 1 lb breakfast sausage, drain, add your choice of shredded cheese(I use colby/montary jack mix),cut up green onions, and 1 cup ranch dressing..put some wonton wrappers in mini cupcake pan and brown in oven..fill these cups w/sausage mixture and heat till warm..
Third-and easiest of all-I got a variety already made cheese cake from the local grocery store and cut into small squares with a pizza cutter..then I put each piece into a mini cupcake colored paper holder and serve..Also if there's a Sam's club around you, they have a boxed variety of already bite size pieces that is wonderful...
Hope these are helpful and good luck on your opening

Hi C.,

You should definitely have a theme for your event. Your topic sounds like a great theme itself. Is your event going to be indoors our outside? I am an event planner and I would be obliged to assist you in any manner. The other ladies pretty much narrowed the food choices down. Another question, will children be attending as well?

a taco salad or 7 layer party platter with chips is always good here is a good recipe you can alway add or subtract something from it if you don't like it

I would do the regular things, mixed nuts, cheese, and if you want something heavier, there's a casserole most of us are familiar with - the egg and sausage one. For many folks, the sausage is too heavy/greasy/spicy .. try switching that meat for ground round and it's delicious and more filling than just snacks. The eggs, cheese, meat in one dish. You can do it in a toss away foil pan and no clean-up needed.

My favorite dip is sour creeam , dry ranch dressing packet, and reg. cottage cheese. It is chunkier than the regular ranch dip and I think it more satisfying.

I tend to think when these parties are going on that I would rather have my hands free while listening to a salesperson so I can follow along in the catalog or jot down a note if I especially like something. So I would say that breaking it up a bit would be nice. For example: Welcome everyone as they come in and point out the refreshments and tell them "we'll be starting in X/? minutes, feel free to visit and try some food" then give them a chance to eat more after the presentation.

Good luck on your new business.

Where are you located and how many will you be serving because I have tons of horsd'oeuvres and also appetizers, most of my horsd'oeuvres recipes are for 100 because I am usually on the activities committee in my ward at church. Of course they can be cut down to smaller groups. I would be glad to share recipes with you if you want.

Stephanie's idea about pinwheels have also been a big hit for me...I like to try variations on the same idea...sometimes I use rare, thin roast beef with the cream cheese spiked with horseradish. Any sandwich flavors that you like can be transformed into a pinwheel. Different tortilla flavors are good, also, and they don't stick to your fingers!

Food ideas: Finger sandwiches, meatballs/cocktail smokies, pigs in a blanket, fruit tray, bagel bites, or take a pizza and cut it up into small pieces (like 2-bite size). I think 2 hours is fine, as long as you break it up. Like the first 30 mins could just be talking/eating. Then you could do an hour show with pamphlets/pictures showing the candles & bath products, as you show actual products. Then the last 30 mins could be the sales paperwork for interested buyers.

My favorite food site is recipes.com. They have GOBS of good recipes and they're all rated by users, so you won't get 'burned' with a bad recipe at the last minute. I love being the social hostess myself, and cooking is such a great way of giving a little love... Good luck on your party.

Went to a party last week and the hostess had fresh veggies and dip but she also had fresh fruit, in season, and the dip was creame cheese with brown sugar stirred in. I had never had that dip before and it was great.
A theme is always good to have. It makes decorating easier. Buy clear glass plates, they can be used for any season.
Good luck,
J.
