Help! We live in Lynnwood and my daughter's school would be Spruce. I have only heard bad things about this school and I'm terrified to send her their. I have heard great things about Meadowdale. Is it hard to send a child to a school within the district but not the one assigned to your residence? Should I look for private schools? My daughter is 4 and has a late b-day in Dec. I have been told by her pre-school teacher that she is advanced for her age and ready for Kindergarten now. I'm looking for a great schol that will challenge her. Also what about the Mukilteo schools? I have friends that would let me use thier address if needed to get her in....

Thanks!

What can I do next?

I am going to check out Madrona and Maplewood schools for my daughter, they're on a lottery system. If you enter your older daughter's name in the lottery and she gets picked, your younger daughter is automatically in too when she goes to school. It's K-8 but not private. If we dont' get picked in the lottery, we're going to send her to Cedar Park Christian in Mill Creek, which is fairly inexpensive compared to other private schools I've looked at. These three schools were also recommended to me by other mothers in this area. I went to private and public school myself, and wish I'd gone to private the whole time, or at least a K-8 school, public schools force a child to grow up too fast sometimes, and with class sizes, etc...there's not enough individual attention I think. You can check out stats on each Edmonds school District school on their website I believe too. Good luck!

i...am going to try to not make this into a rant.
but i dont really understand sending your child to another school in a different area. where i grew up (utah) that just didnt happen...if your kid didnt go to the neighborhood school, the only other choice was provate school. if parents didnt like certain things at the school, they got together and changed it.
the beginning of this school year, my friends little brother was going into high school..his first choice was West Seattle High..since he lives right around the corner..his other 2 choices were also semi-close...he didnt get into any of them because of children from other districts and areas either using friends addresses and/or just deciding theyd rather go there. i think its totally unfair to children that WANT to go to their neighborhood school and cant because others arent happy with their choices.
im really not attacking you personally...i just dont think its fair.

I personnally know nothing about the schools in Lynnwood, but as far as Mukilteo School District, it has been rated one of the best in Washington. I was in this school district and now my daughter is starting pre-K classes and my niece and nephew are in 1st grade. One goes to Picnic Point Elementary, which is a great school, and the other goes to Serene Lake Elementary, which is also good. If you have specific questions about Mukilteo, just write me!!

I know from experience with the Edmonds School District that unless the other school is what they call an open school you can't get in. Meadowdale was not an open school 2 years ago when we were looking. I would also check the school districts early entry rules but I think because your daughter has a December birthday she would not be able to start Kindergarten early. Also to get her in on early entry status, this is any child who is not 5 by Aug 31st you have to go through a very lenghty and expensive test. My daughter has an October birthday and we just made the cut off. We sent our daughter for a year to Soundview and it was a great school, I have also heard great things about Brighton school in Edmonds. We are now in Chase Lake Elementary and are very happy there, it is an open school in the Edmonds district so you might want to look at it. I would call the Edmonds School District and see if she can even start early with a December birthday before you really worry for this year and if she can't I would look at Soundview or Brighton they have great Pre-K classes.
You can email me if you want more advice, I just went through this 2 years ago and it can be overwhelming..
