Need help on how get a stain out but not sure what it is. Just washed and dried a load today and noticed something "splattered" blue on 2 pieces (fuschia color) of my daughters clothing but the rest of the load is fine! It may be fabric softener from the Downy ball but I don't know for sure. How on earth do I get it out not knowing what it may be without ruining the clothes? I'm afraid the clothes are ruined since they've dried already. Any tips welcome!! Thanks!

What can I do next?

Grandmas Secret Spot Remover is a good one! It took red crayon stains out of my daughter's clothes, even after being washed & dried multiple times.

If it is a possible "set" stain, I would try Woolite with oxyclean. It's for carpets, but I've used it on some set stains and for some it has worked better than others. Without knowing the source, it is hard to tell if it would work or not, but might be worth a try. :)

A similar thing happens to us a lot, and I believe it is fabric softener. I'd recommend rewashing the item to see if you can get it out (make sure not to dry).

There's a lady who calls herself the Queen of Clean, and she swears that she can get any stain out - if nothing else, I'd check out her website and see if she has any advice to offer.

Good luck. I do second Karrissa's comment about Oxyclean. If you let it set long enough, it seems to be really effective in removing stains.

I agree with oxyclean. I had a lot of success with repeated soakings/rinsings on a spagetti sauce stain. I have a bathroom downstairs few people use so i would soak it in the sink for an hour, then check on it, then soak it again, then run it through the wash. It took about 3 washes and repeated soakings, but luckily that was laundry day (well, 2 days) and I had plenty of loads to throw it in.

This isn't a suggestion about your stain but about fabric softener. I was taken in by ads and tried using fabric softener for awhile and didn't like the way it left greasy spots on some clothes and eventually left fabric unable to absorb water.

My dad was an appliance repairman. He suggested that clothes come out stiff when the water is hard and recommended using a water softener rather than a fabric softener if that is why one uses fabric softener.

I quit using the fabric softener and liked the way my clothes and especially my towels came out. I was using the softener for the scent. Detergents now have scents which works for me.

As to the stain. I, too, have had success with OxyClean for removing stains. I also put it in the washer with the detergent in my whites load and my whites seem cleaner to me.

Hi Holly! If it's fabric softener, try rubbing a small amount of Dawn dish soap into the stain and spraying with your stain remover of choice. Let it sit 24 hours and wash it in cold water.

I just started using Charlie's Soap and I am so impressed that I can't say enough about it. I don't need softener, it gets stains out and my laundry is cleaner than it ever has been. They also have an all purpose cleaner that is supposed to be amazing on stains. I am going to re order today! It's so worth looking into.

Oxyclean is the best, just soak your clothes during the night in the water and on the stain area put baby oxyclean, by morning stains will be gone. It works on all stains. its really the BEST. (POWDER baby OXYCLEAN) I GOT IT FROM Babies R Us

I agree would first wash and see if that takes it out. If not, I use PreSpot by Melaleuca. It has done wonders with getting out stains that my 11 year old boy seems to jump on his clothes.
