Static Help!

The static in my house is killing us! My poor 2 year old looks like he stuck his finger in an electical socket, his hair just sticks straight up from the static.

I use dryer sheets on our clothes. I've stopped putting on his fleece jacket. I run a humidifier upstairs and that seems to help a little bit, but our downstairs is so open I think I'd need a super sized one.

The mircofiber couch is a particular problem. You can hear the little shocks as my son climbs up and down and moves just a fraction of an inch.

Any help is appreciated.

What can I do next?

you can take a dryer sheet and rub it on your couch and on your clothes after you put them on. you can also add a small amount (like a dime size) of conditioner into a spray bottle and fill the rest with water and can spray down your hair and body with that, it helps also!

How about running a pot of water or tea kettle on the stove on low. My girlfriend's house is the same way they have forced warm air which is the cause of her dry, static house so what she does is keeps a tea kettle of water on the stove on low at all times and she has a humidifier attached to her furnace too.

I agree-a humidifier on the furnace will solve it. You need to get moisture into the air. Running several humidifiers, boiling pots of water, place pans of water near your furnace vents all work, but having a humidifier put on the furnace will work permanently.

You need a humidifier on your furnace. That will solve the static problem in your entire house.

All you have to do is put a pot of water on the stove and let it boil for a while each day. I have to do that in our house once in a while. The humidity is low. You have to bring it up. Be sure to set a timer so you don't forget the pot is boiling and let it run dry though. This will save your son from further shocks while playing in the house or climbing on the furniture. It will also save some electrical equipment from burning out due to shocks. Especially your computer. It could only take one shock while turning it on to burn out the motherboard or hard drive!

I hate it too! Moisture from a humidifier helps a lot my parents are in the Chicago area and had one installed on their furnace. I also usually buy a can of Static Guard and spray the couches and the inside of my car. It usually lasts a good month or so but our humidity levels vary widely in the winter in N. Texas.
