Mamas & Papas-

Looking at the marcy upright mag cycle on amazon. Thought to use it at home while pulling watching netflix in the evening. Do you guys use stationaries? Is this a decent one? Are there any cycle buffs in mamapedia? are there objective numbers I can look at (like a consumer reports which compares, resistance, speed, stability, cost, noise etc, and gives you best value for your money?).

most important to me are - size (compact), volume (whisper quiet) and that it offer some resistance.

Thanks,
F. B.

What can I do next?

We had (have) that bike. It is good for small spaces. However, if your child is at all the curious type to take things apart--in any way at all---it will NOT last. The "computer" with it broke first, very easily. Then the foam around the handle bars, very cheap by the way, was mostly gone. Then she ripped the seat. And she did not have to do much to get it that way. If I could do it again, I would have scoured Craigslist a bit more or spent a bit more money for a better one. But overall, the bike does what you want. No noise and my husband did use it briefly while watching TV. It does have resistance levels and worth the price overall.

I have a device (Kinetic Bicycle Indoor Exercise Trainer) you just hook your bike up to. So when not in use it is very small (but extremely heavy). I don't know how it compares, but I like it. It was free from a friend who never used it so the price was right. They cost about $50 new. http://www.amazon.com/Kinetic-Bicycle-Indoor-Exercise-Tra...

I have a recumbent bike that I LOVE. I ride at least 17 miles everyday (1 hour). I did over 10,000 miles last year which was more milage than I put on my car.

I hated my upright bike and actually just gave it away.

I can look at the model number of my recumbent bike if you want but I would not say it is particularly compact.

I do not use one, but we have an ellipictal.

Few thoughts..
What is the warranty? what does it cover? Where will it be repiared, who is responsible for any shipping etc..

We bought our ellipictal from a place that will come to my home fix, and cover shipping if necessary. They do the repairs at their office (20 min drive from the house).

I have had a $200 stationary bike from Sport Authority for several years. I used magnetic tension so there is no big wheel spinning that could cause little fingers to get hurt, plus it is quiet. It is on rollers so I can roll in in front of the tv, and roll it back to a corner of our bedroom. It has multiple programs that vary the tension up and down as if you are on hills etc, and also a manual mode. I use it frequently although there have also been stretches of time where I just hang my clothes on it, haha! This time of year with the snow and ice it is great to have another way to get some exercise, and it you are going to be watching tv anyway, why not move? I would trust Amazon reviews, but bought mine at the local store since they are heavy and shipping would cost a lot.
