Stay at Home Date night....need Some Suggestions.

Money is tight with us because we are saving for our second child on the way due in August. I am wanting to start planning date nights for me and my husband because life takes over our relationship sometimes. Does anyone have some good suggestions on putting these together? I know usual dinner and movie type things, but was hoping for some other ideas as well. Thanks so much!

My husband and I have the most fun playing video games together. We get sports games or puzzle games that don't take a long time to learn and are relatively easy for me since I'm not a gamer. We rent them from Blockbuster and stay up half the night playing, even if the games are awful, we always have fun. Do you grocery stores have prepared meals? I would do this over cooking, since part of date night is a break for me as well. I usually go to the grocery store and get a prepared meal. It maybe a little more expensive than cooking, but a lot less expensive than going out.

We sometimes go to the basement and spend the night in the guest room. It's like a free hotel. Makes it kind of fun. Still have the baby monitor, though.

Go for a walk in the park, take a picnic with you. Go to a sports event - kids soccor/little league, ect or local high schools shouldn't cost too much (better if you went to one of the schools! lol). Catch a community concert. Don't know about your area, but here we have a community arts center that has friday night dancing for $10 a couple (If I recall correctly) - it's "old fashioned" with a live band and we see all the little old couples who still waltz and foxtrot :) Do a service project together. Okay so most of these aren't stay at home, but they are less expensive. And for me and my husband, if we stay at home and send the kids off to grandma's we end up not really doing anything; if we go out, we actually have a "date"

I'm glad you asked this. I needed ideas too. Do you have a friend with a talent you want to learn? Something my husband and I did once that we really enjoyed was to go to the house of an artist friend of ours. Her kids were older than ours and played with them for us while she taught us how to use pastels. She had set up a still life for us and let us use her paper and pastels, giving us pointers along the way. It was really fun for us. And it didn't cost anything because it was something she enjoyed sharing with people.

We love to play games... card games, board games, video games... Those kind! ;) Head to Target if you haven't refreshed your game supply lately. Our favorites right now are Qwirkle and dominoes (I know DOMINOES!? Who plays those?!) We enjoy them. We try to enjoy them one night a week, but life gets in our way too!!

We love to play Scrabble and Wii Sports together. Both involve laughter and talking. Throw in a nice bottle of wine and/or a yummy dessert to make it a little more special.

Fondue is always fun. Sometimes after the kiddo is in bed, we light some candles and eat chocolate fondue with strawberries, marshmellows, grapes, that sort of thing.

- Strip Poker
- Relax outside and look at stars (on a clear night)
- If you do dinner & movie, pick a movie that you can't watch with your child there. Cook food that's too spicy or something that your child wouldn't eat, since you don't have to cook for your child - this can be y'all's treat. Just cooking together can be fun!

Sorry thats all I can think of right now. I would just love to be able to relax with husband and not have to rock the baby or wash the dishes, so just having it be you two would be great. I'm sure you'll get lots of other suggestions though.

Hi J.,

I like to get the dining room table all set up nice with candles and "the good china", order take-out from somewhere we've not been before. Take a long time eating dinner, talking and enjoying each others company. Then take a nice walk around the neighborhood. When we come back home, light a candle on the coffee table and cuddle up on the couch to watch a good movie .. one week he chooses, the next I do.

Nice and simple, but it feels wonderful :)

good luck!

Take turns giving each other a foot massage!

Make sure you get some peppermint lotion (or just get peppermint oil to put in plain lotion.)

Peppermint stick ice cream probably necessary for the occasion, and peppermint tea.

Then go to bed early and sleep sleep sleep!

Do you guys like to play cards? Board games? Wii games such as Wii Fit? Brisk walk around the neighborhood?
As for dinner/movie--maybe try some new & unusual recipes you can cook together. You know, anything out of the ordinary.
