Stokke Highchair for Toddler

My 2 1/2 yr old son started resisting his high chair probably a year ago. We then put a booster seat on a regular chair, but about 6 months ago he started resisting that. Since then, he's been just kneeling on the regular chair, but this isn't a great solution. He's not comfortable, can't reach his food easily and won't stay at the dinner table for more than 3 minutes. We end up serving him many meals at his little child-height table. I'm considering buying a Stokke highchair for him. Although he is well past the age of needing a highchair, I am hoping he will like the idea of having his own special chair, and not think of it as a baby chair.

Has anyone else introduced a Stokke high chair to their toddler and had success? And for those who use Stokke chairs, how long did your child continue to use the chair?

I'd really like to find a way to get my toddler to sit comfortably at the dinner table without having a battle about it. But I sure don't want to spend $250 and have him refuse to use that chair, too!

What can I do next?

I have a Stokke..really great chair..introduced it to my daughter at 3. She is 5.5 now and still uses it. My youngest will use it when she is done with her high chair. They are great and quality chairs. Good luck..

My 2 year old likes it. We got it for him less than 6 months ago.

I think it makes him feel like a big boy to be able to get in and out of it by himself. Of course, it comes with a whole new set of power struggles getting him to stay *in* the chair.

My DH's family had one and his youngest brother sat in it until he was 18 and went away to college. So I think it's safe to say you'll get lots of use out of it.

We bought both of my kids the Euro High Chair from One Step Ahead. It is like the stokke but much cheaper. My kids loved it and still use them (they are 3 and 6). It puts them high up so they can reach the table without a booster but feels like a real chair.

I looked into getting this high chair and then saw this video on youtube of children being able to tip it over. We have one that attaches to a chair and our daughter pushed against the table with her feet and tipped it over. My husband caught her thank goodness. Just wanted to mention this to say, be careful with whatever seat you get. Our table has a ledge underneath it that makes it possible for her to push with her feet and tip a booster or the high chair over.

We got Stokke high chair for our son at around the same age. He loved it and we still use it. He is now 4.5 yrs. I use it myself sometimes and it's quite comfortable. I see us using that chair going forward as it's easy to adjust the hight as the child grows.

Hi A.
We have the stokke high chair. Our daughter is 2.10. She loves the stokke because she can be pushed close to the table but still feel high enough to eat. She knows how to climb in and out of it which she liked.
At first we bought her a booster seat after she transitioned out of her high chair. She liked that but got frusterated that she could not get off by herself because the lip on the booster.
The stokke can bring your son through many years. We never bought the infant insert so he would have know idea it is a high chair. He'll just think it is a new chair.

I bought a Stokke knock-off from One Step Ahead and I love it. It's called the Euo II http://www.onestepahead.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId...

I introduced it to my daughter before her second birthday because I found that the tie on booser was unsafe as she kept tilting back on it. She is four now and knows it's her seat. It adjusts easily as she grows.

This chair is fabulous - cleans up easily and is not too expensive. The only downside is the cushion. It's kind of crappy so buy the better one they sell.

Can you take him to the furniture store with you and let him pick out the chair he likes? Then it's on him if he doesn't like it in the house.

My 5 year old is still sitting on her Stokke chair and will no doubt continue to use it for some time to come. My older child used it til she was 5 or 6 as well (only really stopped because her little sister needed it!). It's been in continuous use in our family for 10 years so is the best bit of child equipment I ever bought!! You will be able to use it for another child, sell it or pass it on after use - they are very good quality.
If you introduce it to him without the "baby" bar and straps on it, there's no reason for him to think of it as a highchair or baby seat - it doesn't look like a baby thing - you could describe it as a special seat or big boy seat for him.
