Has anybody had hot and cold flashes before their period? I just got done breast feeding for 11 months and this will be my second period since. And for about a week before I am hot and cold at the same time and sweat all night long. And then during the day I feel pretty awful. But once the period comes I feel great. I have never had these symptoms before my period. And these symptoms I also had for the first two months after my son was born. I as assuming it is just hormonal. But I am wondering if anybody has any remedies so I don't feel so awful.

What can I do next?

That has actually happened to me since I had a baby as well! 7 years later, it doesn't always happen, but it still sometimes does. My doctor says it's normal, just hormones. :) Unfortunately, I don't have any remedies. Good luck.

I had this after each time I gave birth. I took Estrofactors, a supplement that balances out the levels of estrogen and progesterone in your body. It does not contain estrogen or progesterone, it just enables your body to balance the your body. It's amazing!
You can get EstroFactors at many chiropractors or online. It's made by Metagenics. There are many online sites that have it for a discounted price.
It says it's made for those going though menopause but women of all ages can take it. I started taking it when I was 24 and again last year. I only needed it for a month each time so it's not long term.
I hope you find something that works for you!

I weened my son 5 months ago and in the last 4 periods I've had, I've had crazy PMS. I never had period problems after my first son, but I didn't nurse him. Now, about a week before I get my period I'm as tired as I was in my first weeks of pregnancy. I just feel cruddy. I try to to more exercising around that time and take vitamin B to get me going. I don't know about the night sweats. Are you on a new birth control? I started Mirena and I'm wondering if that is making me all wonky.

Hi J.
I would talk to the doctor about seeing if maybe you have a cyst that is causing this hormaonal inbalance. It also may be your hormones trying to get normal agian good luck T.

It is probably hormones. It takes a while for your body to regulate itself again so give it time. They say it can take up to two years to get back to normal again.

As for the hot flashes, try putting some rubbing alcohol on the back of your neck and letting it dry. That works for my hot flashes and I also put ice packs on my feet, it really helps to cool me down. If it gets worse then go see your doctor about maybe getting some hormone meds to help you regulate.

A friend of mine also reminds me every month that your periods get worse after having kids too. Oh joy :)

I get horrible mood swings and actually have to take some PMS medication and that helps a lot.

I just weaned my 18 month old at night, and I got weird, wonky symptoms. I think it's very normal to feel odd hormonal shifts when you quit nursing, esp if you've nursed for a while. I've weaned three times, and every one of them has felt kinda weird. Also, my periods have changed with every one of my pregnancies--I have much more symptomatic PMS, and now I even feel crampy when I'm ovulating. I don't know if it's "normal" but I definitely notice it.

I would definately talk with your doctor before doing anything. You need to rule out anything medical. I have never experienced this but have heard from a lot of people who have had relief from female issues with a nutritional product I also use. If you want more info on it I can get it for you.

I have had hot flashes before my period occasionally since I was in my 20s. They don't seem as severe as what you are describing. And I didn't notice that mine got worse after my baby. I also get hot/cold sweaty if my blood sugar is low especially during the week before my period. You might want to pay attention to your diet and make sure you get a steady amount of protein and limit sugar the week before your period. I drink a protein shake called Spirutein every morning for breakfast mixed with milk and that has helped me.

My son is almost three months old and I am still nursing him exclusively. I haven't gotten my period yet, but had the same symptoms last week and now they are gone. I too thought it was so weird!
