Stressed About Feeding an 11 Month Old

I am stressing over my 11 month's old eating habits. He just will not eat much if any table foods and really will not allow me to spoon feed him. He will eat Cheerios anytime I put them in fron of him, but other things are not accepted. I'm not sure if he just doesn't like things, isn't hungry or what is going on. I am still bottle feeding him and trying to transition to sippy cups on a couple of the bottles each day. What is normal at this age? Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

What can I do next?

Ditto on trying to chop up table food really small. I put just a few pieces on the tray as to not overwhelm the child. My twins had some feeding issues for a long time with hard foods, so here are some that worked well for us in the beginning: scrambled eggs, avacado, bagels or Gerber Zweiback toast (to gnaw on - works great if your little one is teething), peas/peas & carrot mix (my girls liked them right out of the can vs. warm), Gerber puffs, macaroni w/ cheese, plain cooked pasta, banana pieces (you can roll it in smashed up cereal so it doesn't feel slimy to pick up). My girls also liked to dip things even though it was very messy. Maybe he'll dip the banana pieces or a piece of zweiback toast in a small bowl of yogurt?

Try not to worry too much (easier said than done, right!?). All kids are on different paces and one day you'll look up and he will be eating all sorts of things. Sometimes it just takes a while!

Have you tried just chopping up table food? My 11 month old is kind of going trough the same thing and I just gave up and started cutting everything up really small and giving that to her instead of jar food and she is alot more happy!!

I am not really sure about your the "details" but, my mother in law told me about this...instead of trying to feed one thing at a time...(green beans) which most don't like try having 2 jars on the table one veggie(not that yummy) and one yummy one(yogurt,bananas..something sweet) or do that with rice cereal also and maybe he will begin let the guard down..my daughter really didn't start eating well until she had "real" table foods and I used this same method..Good Luck.

All babies develop at different paces. My 23 mo old twin boys are not eating much better. I just keep introducing new foods and try try again until I can find something they will eat. It often takes 3 or 4 trys before they decide to eat something - meaning trying at different meals. I continue to feed some jar food to get their nutrition. some times I give them a favorite plastic toy to play with and then they will let me feed them. Things to try: chicken nuggets cut up small; frozen waffles - I use blueberry, cut up small; toast is a favorite; goldfish. I even broke down and gave them Gerber Graduates fruit treats to entice them to chew food - normally I stay away from juice because it's like sugar but that's what it took to get them to chew on something. Consider also that he may be teething and may avoid anything while teething, so try again later. Pasta is good- my boys really like the Gerber Sweet Potatoe bite size treats. One of the twins will not eat unless I put it on the tray and let him pick it up; the other will not eat unless I place it in his mouth. All babies are different.

This is something we're dealing with as well. It's so frustrating b/c my 1st born was such a great eater when it came to baby food and table foods and still is. But my 11 month old daughter sounds like your child. Meal times are a struggle since she's not really liking much of anything I've put in front of her (and totally refuses anything that comes at her in a spoon). Some things that she will usually eat: toast, pancakes, crackers, chicken nuggets, shredded chicken, ground beef, lunch meat, strawberries, apple sauce (have to put it on my finger to let her taste it first), tetrazini casserole, cheerios and Gerber puffs. She's still nursing every 3-4 hours. I'm hoping it's just a phase :)

Good luck to you!
