I will be traveling with my daughter next month (she will be 5 months old at the time) and I was wondering what other moms have done about their stroller. We would like to take our stroller with us, but are not sure if we should take the frame only and the carseat or take the stoller seat as well. We will be gone for 10 days. Any suggestions??

So What Happened?

Thanks for all your tips. We are definitely going to take the stroller and car seat with us then gate check them. It's just a little daunting to figure out how we are going to take all of the necessary baby things with us on our trip.

Responding to your feedback comment: the first long trip I did with my son, I started putting a list together a few weeks before we traveled. As I went through my days, I figured out what I used, what I needed to take, or find a travel version of. It was really useful and I update it each time (because their needs change as they get older and depending on exactly where you are going). it is too easy to forget some silly thing that you use at home and don't even think of as a 'baby' item.

We just flew in June and took both parts of our Graco infant travel system: the carseat and stroller. We used the carseat in the plane (we bought baby a seat). We were able to take both the car seat and stroller to the gate. We tookt he carseat into the plane and the stroller was left outside of the airplane door. The crew loads it and it's waiting for you in the same place when you arrive at your destination.
The airlines were very accomodating- I would take it all. They don't count as luggage, luckily. You won't regret taking something extra but will kick yourself if you end up needing it and don't have it.

I just came back from a trip with my 7 month old baby. I was able to stroll him to the gate. Before we boarded the plane, I checked in the stroller at the gate and they had it waiting for me when we landed. As far as the car seat, since the flight was not full, I was able to leave him in his car seat and sit him next to me as if he paid for the seat. If the flight is full, then your daughter will be a "lap" baby and you can check in the car set with your stroller. Hope that helps!

10 days is a long time and i would take everything thatyou think you might need. I flew from CA to NY and to OK and to Mexico last year and took my stroller and carseat on all trips. You just gate check the stuff, the airline are used to it. Make sure when you gate check it to tell them to be very careful with your items, on one trip the soft handle got ripped on my stroller.

I went on a trip with my son when he was two months old. We brought the car seat (we would need that for the car at our destination anyway) and the frame stroller. We were able to check both at the gate. I brought a big duffle bag to put the car seat in since I had heard they could get damaged or dirty otherwise. Also my son is much more comfortable in his car seat and sleeps better in there for walking around and waiting in the airport.

They will store your stroller in the front of the plane for you. I took mine last time I flew and was greatful since some airports are huge and then you dont have a free hand for luggage.

My suggestion is to buy a bag for the carseat and send it with your luggage. As for your daughter, use a regular stroller. If it works for you, use an umbrella stroller. (I prefer to use a jogging stroller ONLY)

You can use the stroller all the way up to the plane. When you get to the plane, you will leave the stroller at the plane door and carry your child into the plane. When your flight is over, the stroller will be waiting for you when you get off the plane.

Good luck! AND. . .remember to pack that pacifier! It will help with popping ears on the plane!

I would recommend taking your stroller and car seat. It can be a little extra work going through security, but take them both with you and gate check them. When you get to the gate, ask at the counter if there is room on the plane for you to carry the car seat on. If there is extra seats, they will let you. I have flown on three round-trip flights and have been able to every time. Even if your little one does not sit in it much, at least you have a extra seat! The only downside to taking your stroller, is that the airlines are VERY rough with them. The first time I traveled, I used my main stroller, and the handlebar was damaged... I got a basic stroller for traveling that any car seat can fit in, (http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2327597) It is super light weight and great for traveling.
