Stroller Q: Double for a Newborn + Tall Boy at 2 Yr 9 Mos

My kids are 2 1/2 and 7 months and we just bought the Britax B-Ready and I absolutely love it! It is very versatile (check out there website, there's like 16 ways to use it with the different seat types available). I bought it over other options because it lets you use an infant carseat below in the back, but still facing Mommy. I never liked the Phil and Teds type where the younger baby is below the first and can't see anything but the buggy so the B-Ready is wonderful. My little one can look around at her world and also see me.

What I would do is -a double jogging stroller for walks and a sit n stand for trips to the mall and things like that. I think double strollers are a nightmare to get between clothing racks and tight places. And I'm not sure your son would be horribly comfortable in a sit and stand on a long walk.

I just bought the Sit and Stand Deluxe. I thought it would be the regular sit and stand, but it came with two full seats, the rear one being removable. The rear seat has plenty of room for my three year old daughter. She is almost 30 pounds and 37 inches tall. It handles well and I like the taller handle on it. If your child gets too large for the rear seat, you can take the seat out and just use the standing platform, or the platform and the bench.

I wouldn't invest in a new stroller at all.... i'd stalk craiglist for a stroller. my kids were 23 mos apart - so she was 2 when my son was born and we did the sit n stand LX or about a year (which had the 2 seats but you could take off the back seat to use the bench - which my in laws bought us brand new) - but by 3 she really wanted to walk more, and my son was 1 and out of the carrier - so i only used it for a year or so, sold it on craigslist and bought a double jogger off craiglist - and i used that for about a year too - they liked being side by side better and with the swivel front wheel it turned on a dime (instead of the long train likeness of the sit n stand - somewhat hard to turn with all the wieght on). now that they are 2 and 4 i just swapped with someone on craiglist the Tike Tek double jogger for the McLaren double (folds up small like an umbrella stroller) - and only use that if we're on day trips - like a fair, or museum, for them to sit in if they get tired. but for the most part. At one point i had 5 strollers for 2 kids..... your needs change every 6 mos to a year with the kids growing and the seasons... warmer weather going on more walks.... vs. winter when it's just about circling the mall.......

also hunt down mothers groups on line - and on their bullietin boards post want ads, and look for yard sales - the chelmsford mothers group has an annual yard sale at the middle school - great place to find gear. theirs is April 9 this year.

I have a Joovy caboose ultra light. It's a sit and stand stroller that has a attachment and belt to hold a baby carrier. I found that when the baby carrier is attached and the front seat is reclined the seat behind is a bit cramped. But once you get past wanting to use the baby carrier its great. My 3 yr old loves to ride in it. She'd rather sit than stand though. I love that the cover shades super well the front seat. It sort of shades for the back, but it's meant to mostly allow the child to stand if they want. It also folds really compact and is lighter than my single stroller. Love it! Try joovy.com to see it.

My son is huge (most people think he's 4 - he's 2.5) and the only stroller he fit in comfortably was the Bumbleride Indie Twin. He actually still has seat height left above his head. I would also get a Sit n Stand or something. The Bumbleride is nice for walks and trips to zoos but for stores it's a PITA. We test drove the single Bumbleride at Buy Buy Baby and went online to order the Indie Twin.

We have the BOB Revolution double and we love it. My VERY (off the height charts) tall daughter was 2 when my son was born and we have been using it now for 3 years. She will be five in august and she has finally outgrown the stroller. In my opinion, there are no strollers that are perfect for larger children but out of everything that we looked at the BOB was by far the best solution.

Sit'n'stand - I think there's a couple of companies that make similar strollers. The front is for the little one (mine has a car seat adapter), the back is for the bigger kid - they can sit or stand (belts for both) facing you. I think mine holds a combined weight of 75 lbs - my 6 yr old still squeezes in occasionally.

Check out the sit and stand strollers. The weight limit is a bit heigher then the regular strollers & you can fit a larger child comfortably in the back. They can sit or stand & there is a seat belt.
