Hi! I live in a Chicago Bungalow and my walls are uneven- the house is 80 years old. I am in need of a sturdy baby gate- I would prefer a pressure gate that I don't have to screw into the moulding around the doorway- I just don't want the antique moulding to get ruined- it is hard to find stuff like that nowadays. I tried a pretty generic pressure gate and it didn't work. If anyone has any suggestions on gates that might work, I would really appreciate it. Or, any suggestions on how to repair the moulding after we are done using a mounted gate?

They sell a baby gate at Target and Babies R Us that is pressure mounted. I don't have it yet but once my little one gets miving, I will be buying it again--I had it a few years ago and threw it out figuring I would not need it anymore. I can't remember the name of it but very similar to the Evenflo Pressure lock gate but more heavy duty and taller. You can put it as tight as needed.
We had a similar problem at the bottom of our stairs and ended up buying this gate that we screwed into the walls. It has three panels and can fit in an odd space:

I use several retract-a-gates. You do mount them but the clips can be used on your wall rather than molding. They were the only thing I could find that worked in my old house where traditional pressure types couldn't mount on the banisters etc.
if the gate you have won't stayin place because the walls are off you could try going to the hardware store and get some ''shims'' they are small wedges of wood used to straighten doors,windows when installed to make the straight,you do not have to attach these just slide one or two in the gap where needed that should help

I agree with the One Step Ahead gate. It is awesome. I just moved from a Chicago bungalow and the gate left no marks on the door frame like my other gates did.
I am a grandma in the same situation, bungalow, wider doors, etc. Babysit often. Bought a gate at target, mesh with pressure. No screws, had to be wider. You have to take measurement with you and look carefully yourself. Most clerks do no know what you want. The plastic gates, even pressure ones, are not wide enough for my doors.check online first and you will see what i mean.
Try One Step Ahead pressure gate. They are pricey, but AWESOME they also have a swing out opening so that you can get through the gate without having to step over it or constantly taking the gate down.
