Success Using Online Fitness/fatloss Program or Book?

Has anyone ever used an on-line fitness/fatloss program or book or know someone who has--and had success, of course?! I've joined a gym and am on the right track with my exercise routine. However, I'm concerned that I will over do it. In the past, I worked out super hard and followed a very strict diet. I looked incredible, but I know I wasn't all that healthy. This time I'd like to have a balance of both, but knowing my personality, I need to be careful. I think I might benefit from some common-sense guidance. The personal training at the gym is way too expensive, and I truly I can be successful without it. I'm looking to lose fat and gain muscle. Any suggestions?

I think the more active you are with the groups on the message boards, the more successful you are. Lots of information, recipes, exercise ideas, great tools for tracking food and exercise and most of all, support from those in the same boat as you. Oh, and best of all, it's completely free. :-)

Good luck!

My husband has lost 45 lbs. on the Best Life diet. He read the book and went on the internet and found information about how many calories he should have everyday. Then he counted calories for like two weeks, keeping a journal to help him to relate food with calories. Once he got the hang of that he doesn't count anymore. He excercies 4 days a week and changed his eating habits. I think the main reason he has had success is because he doesn't have a lot of rules like "never eat carbs." He just eats less, more often, healthier foods, and he excercises. Just changing his lifestyle and recognizing his weaknesses. Hope this helps and good luck!

In 2007, I lost 50 pounds (went from 220 to 170 - I'm 5'4") using Calorie Count (http://caloriecount.about.com) - it's free. My husband also counted calories and lost 80 pounds (he had more to lose than me). There are thousands of people on their message boards who have lost weight, many of them hundreds of pounds. Start off by using their tools to calculate your current BMI and what weight you should have as a long-term goal. Then, the calorie estimator will tell you how many calories you should try to eat every day. Then, use the food and activity logs to keep track of what you eat and your exercise. As long as what you eat minus your activity doesn't go below 1200 calories, you're doing great! There are also lots of articles and information about making good food choices and their database has thousands of foods (including restaurants) that make logging your calories easy.

I did Weight Watchers online for about 6 months and did really well (as long as I followed it). The food portion in simple to understand, they have LOTS of fitness challenges, and lots of online support from other members. If it hadn't been for financial issues I wouldn't have stopped it, but... I thought I could do it on my own but I couldn't. It's amazing how the online people's support made such a difference.

Congrats on working out! When I worked out with a trainer he had me eating healthy meals 5-6 times a day (every 3 hours). If you are interested in the meal plan email me at ____@____.com and I'd be happy to email it to you. The great thing was that I ate what I wanted based on the plan. It makes sense when you see it. It is balanced between your protein and carbs, etc. In fact, I need to start on it again.

Good luck!!

I tried the Setting Captives Free and it is great, I just did not have the alone time available to commit to it. It is a 60-day commitment to read and study the lessons DAILY. I am hoping to redo my schedule around the house and tell hubbie to leave his laptop at home so I can "lock" myself in the bedroom to study the great lessons.

I would NEVER pay for any diet plan though, especially if online. I have tried many of them and it all comes down to counting calories and exercising. However, with the Lord's Table you are putting Christ in the picture and we all know we can do all things with Christ who gives us strength.

Prayers and blessings!
