Success with Zofran Pump?

I've had 4 pregnancies (3 miscarriages and 1 live birth) and have had hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) with all of them. We'd like to have another child, but are scared of HG again. I was hospitalized for HG at 8 weeks when pg with my daughter and then in bed until 16 weeks b/c I couldn't keep anything down. I used Zofran and it curbed the vomiting, but didn't stop it. I still couldn't eat much.

I've consulted a specialist who suggested that I try the Zofran pump if we attempt another pregnancy. Has anyone used the Zofran pump and had success with it? Did it help you function? Did you feel better? Nausea helped by it too or did it just help the vomiting?

Thank you in advance for any information. We are researching this before we attempt another pregnancy since we want to make sure I can at least function to care for our daughter if I'm pregnant and sick again.

In both previous pregnancies I was sick all the time and nothing helped me. With this third one I was the same but luckily found no to morning sickness tea that helped easing my sickness.

Although I've never used a pump, I worked in an OBGYN office where we had patients that did. It seemed to be a life saver! I'd watch women come in who looked like they just wanted to die, and then after they got their pump they'd converse and actually enjoy being pregnant! I'd say go for it!

I can't speak to the Zofran pump. As a birth doula and natural childbirth educator I can speak to hyperemesis. I have found that my clients have great relief and success with acupuncture. Also, the best way to avoid it is to start acupuncture treatment before getting pregnant. Please feel free to contact me if you want a refer to a practitioner who is famiiar with pregnancy.

Hi-
I used the Zofran pump with my 2 pregnancies...it was the only thing that helped. In my 1st pregnancy I started with the oral Zofran and it just wasnt enough. With my second pregnancy my doctors didn't mess around and went straight to the pump. I was more sick the 2nd time around but in both cases the pump did keep me from vomiting all day as well as GREATLY reduce my nausea. I still had a few weeks during my 2nd preg when even on the pump was unable to take care of my then 2.5 y.o. by myself. I was very sick the 2nd time. The worst side effect for me besides the lumps in my legs (from threading the catheter into my leg) was constipation. Please feel free to reply to me with any questions you might have. I know it is difficult to be that sick. Good Luck!

I have 2 children, ages 13 and 8 and was severely sick with both of them into my 5th month of pregnancy. I didn't have the Zofran pump, but did have it through IV's which might be similar. I had pick line put in with my second child (which got infected in the end, spent 2 weeks in the hospital, and almost died). I would say that I got some relief, but just enough to stop the vomiting until my next dose of Zofran. Thankfully, my parents are close by and took care of my daughter for several months of my second pregnancy. With both pregnancies, I lost 30 lbs during the first five months and then regained it during the last, with both my babies delivered at around 9 lbs. I have a gut feeling that this sickness is due to blood sugar levels, but I am no scientist. When I could finally take food again, I was given Zofran pills and although the Dr said that they were not addictive, I had to slowly ween myself off them, eventually cutting the doses to very small amounts. I think the Dr thought I was a little nuts for doing this, but I wanted nothing to take me back to throwing up. During the last 4 months of my pregnancies, I had to be very careful with what I ate, but felt much more normal and functional.

I am so sorry that you have this. Most people have no idea how terrible it is. I will say, my children were worth the sickness, but I will not go through another pregnancy again.

I hope this helps in some way.
