Suggestions for Headstart Programs

My daughter will be turning 3 September 1 and we are expecting on August 26. When the new baby arrives I will no longer be working and my 3 year old won't be attending daycare. I really feel like she needs the interaction with other kids and I would like to find a headstart program. Does anyone have suggestions for the Navarre, FL area?

What can I do next?

Hi K.,
My name is H. Decker and I'm a local real estate agent. I also worked when my children were small (I still do but I'm on round 2 of having little ones... 4 children total... ages 11, 9, 3, and 1). I used to live in Holley By The Sea when my first two were small. I'm not sure if it's an official HeadStart location but I do know this... I loved putting my youngest at that time (I think she was about 3 also) at the Community Life Center a few days a week. I think this location is more of a part time set up. We also had both of ours at the Little Lambs Academy at the Lutheran Church across the street of the Community Center later on. This is more of a school setup. The principal.. I think her name is Ms.Connie... I'm not sure if that's right.. but she really was great. If you go check them out, tell her I said hello! Both of these locations would be very convenient for you, living in Navarre and driving to Gulf Breeze. They are right on the way. I hope this helps.

Hi, My name is K. and I am also a military wife and a mother of a 5 year old. We live in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
My little girl who is 5 years old attends Calvary Christian Accademy here in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.

I started her in school when she was 4 years old, Pre-k My daughter LOVE IT!!!! She is there from 8am to 12pm which is great for me. It gives me enough time to do the things that I need to get done in the day.

Not only she with other kids, but she is learning which I think is awesome. My daughter loves it too!!!!!!!!
I highly recommend this daycare/school.

Head start takes qualifying, you have to make a certain pay level. Look up the nead start in your area, I live right over the county line.

If she is in daycare already, you need to check to see if she is already in VPK. You might be able to continue her daily morning classes there, free of charge. If she's not, you can sign her up for summer classes. Look up the Child Care Services in your are. I ended up taking maternity leave and moved my child to a vpk closer to home, since I was commuting and they were attending in another city, I didn't want to make the drive twice a day. You only have one transfer per semester though. Most daycare centers offer the program. If she has been in vpk through her daycare, she is already enrolled for regular semester, and cannot attend the shortened summer session.

They will have all the info about Head Start though.

Hello K.
I am a stay-home-mom and I have two kids, one girl (will be turning three in August) and a nine month old baby boy. Another option you can think about, is to go to the YMCA. I know it is not a headstart program but it is something you can do as a hobbie or part-time thing. They offer some cool programs/activities starting from the ages of 2 or 3 years old. My daughter was going crazy in the house and I couldn't give her the same attention I used to because of the new baby. I had her in a waiting list for other places, but they were taking too long so I found this helpful to do in the meantime. The good thing about it is that she is telling me to go to the gym. There's even a class that you can work-out with your daughter so you have some fun and be active at the same time.
