My daughter will be turning 3 this summer. After big parties for the first and second birthday, I am looking at something more low key. Most of the kiddos attending will be 3 years old or younger. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I don't know if this is something you're interested in, but the gym I take my daughter too has a "birthday party" program: http://www.sportastiks.com/Birthday_Parties.html

I've seen kids as young as 1 1/2 to 2 taking classes and my daughter is 5, and LOVES it. I thought this looked like a fun idea.

For what it's worth...and good luck!

I would not do much at all. The kids just want to play together. If you plan a lot of activities you may get frustrated with the noncompliance. Maybe pizza, drinks, a small and very easy craft. They will make their own fun. I learned this the hard way. I had too much planned and all they wanted to do was play their own way. Good luck.

What about at one of the public parks? I know the metroparks have public pavilions - just go early and set your stuff on the tables. I think you can even decorate. Bring some games (scavenger hunt for things like a leaf, a stick, shiny rock, etc, pin the tail on the donkey, have a niece or nephew do face painting). I'd also choose a place by a jungle gym. Since you're outside, the parents can stay and you will not be so crowded.

At my daughter's 2nd birthday I bought a water blow up thing that had a small slide, lots of fountains, and a small area about 4 inches deep for a "pool". It was a total hit! The young ones played in it for a really long time! It was nice because there wasn't really anything to worry about since it was mainly a splash pool/play.

My sister just had an outside party for my nephew (2) this past weekend, and she started the party with a scavenger hunt for the kids. She hid things around the yard like hair scrunchies, plastic rings, pudding cups, jello cups, plastic dinosaurs, and a baggie of candy, etc. The kids all got a list with what they needed to find, and my three year old girls loved it (we of course had to help). I thought it was a great way to get the party started and keep the kids interested. Once finished, that was their treat bag.

Not sure what you are looking for will it be at home or outside of the home? If outside of the home, Graeters ice cream shop on Bethel does a wonderful job of a low-key b-day party , they have a great play area for that age and it's not over the top, reasonable $ as well........Good luck

Have a cookout in the backyard, if you have one. Big Lots and Walmart has these inflatable water theme parks(giraffe, elephant, and another animal, which all connects to one hose and each animal squirts out water that they can run through as an obstacle. There were more themes than animals, like a circus theme. It was no more than $20-$25 for the whole set. Also you can get a wadding pool for them to relax in, while eating popsicles. It was inexpensive and no clean up in the house.

I did a Dora party when my youngest turned 3. I made little picture maps for each of them with 3 or 4 landmarks (kind of like the show). When they got to each landmark there were little prizes hidden there (to fill their treat bags). I also made "You Did It!" certificates to give them when they completed their little scavenger hunt. They LOVED it. You can also find printable Dora coloring pages online. That's a great activity for the kids to work on as guests are arriving.

Hope that helps, and I hope your little one has a great bday!
