Hi Moms,

Im researching summer camps for my soon-to-be six year old daughter. I really like what Im reading about the YMCA summer camps in Plano at the Legacy and Russell Creek locations. My last experience with them was when I was a teen camper - long enough ago that things may have changed (I really enjoyed myself then!). Do any of have any more recent experience with these locations and camps? Pros and/or cons?

Thanks so much!!
A.

Whem my 15 yr old daughter was younger, she did a babysitting class and a cooking class at the Russell Creek location and loved it. I did notice that a lot of kids were stationed outside and I would not want my child outside all day.

Also, Plano ISD has a program in the summer during June. It is like summer school and some kids do "have" to go to catch up on reading, math, etc but there is another part of the program that is fun.

My daughter did this through 5th grade and loved it. She took drama, cooking, computers, music. They have a lot of fun classes. This is usually 8-noon for about a month.

I don't know how it works but Plano ISD also has adventure camp for 5th graders. It is my understanding that other children can attend this camp in the summer as well.

Enjoy!

I worked at the Y and they do keep the kids outside in the heat alot. Might be a good idea to ask. Another option is ASI Gymnastics. They offer an indoor summer camp. Plenty of exercise and running around and I know the one by me also has a playground for the kids. They keep them in groups of 10 based on their birthdays. No worrying about older kids picking on the little ones like in daycares. But they do not offer field trips. The gym is the field trip!

Before you enroll make sure to ask how much time the children will spend outside vrs inside. I know a mom that put her child in a camp at a Y and was really unhappy because her child spent the entire day outside in the TX heat!

You might also check Lifetime Fitness. They have wonderful camps and a beautiful, country-club like facility. We are members there and my kids (now 7 and 4 yrs) have both attended camps there in the past summers and loved them.

My older child, boy, has done Rock Climbing, swimming, gym games, tennis, Art, karate, etc. there. And my daughter did swimming, tumbling and cheer last year. They are both excited about starting camps again.
