I'm taking a vacation to Florida with my son in May who will only be about 3 1/2 months old. Is there a good sunblock you recommend for a baby that young? I was looking at California Baby but they only have an spf 30. I wanted something pretty natural seeing as though he's pretty young and has sensitive skin.

What can I do next?

Hey -
You can't do sunscreen until 6 months- something in it is too strong

Yes, there is sunblock that is good for infants and you will need it, along with a protective hat. Arbonne has a fantastic line of naturally botanically based products made especially for newborns/infants that is specifically designed for their young and tender skin. The reason why you can't put OTC sunscreens is because of all the chemicals and harsh ingredients that they are made with. Most should never be used on anyone! That is great that you are caring about the health of your children and looking for more natural ways to keep them healthy. I would be happy to assist you in getting this product. You really do have to be careful of what we put in and on our skin since our skin is our largest organ and absorbs everything 76% times faster than something orally. There are fantastic anti-aging sunscreen products for you as well. I used them this summer and we never burned at all. It truly kept us very well protected. Being in the sun is very damaging to our skin. We do the worst damage to our skin by the age of 18, so you are right to protect you and your family without having to worry and enjoy your vacation! Look forward to hearing from you and best of health to you!

My baby was born in April 07 and so I was very nervous about her being exposed to the summer sun being so tiny. I asked a few different pediatricians about using sunscreen and they all said not to put it on her until 6 months. I basically lived in the shade last summer. When I took her on our daily walks, I just made sure the shade on the stroller was blocking the sun. There are some CUTE summer hats with wide brims out there, get a few of those :o) When your sun is 6 months, California Baby is one of the few baby sunscreens that don't have those nasty nanoparticles so your choice is very safe.
Have a great time in Florida!

My pediatrician and dermatologist highly recommended Blue Lizard sunscreen which is made for infants and children. It is the best and my kids have never gotten sunburned. We spend a great deal of time in Florida and I highly suggest this over other brands made for little ones.

I agree with all the other posts. Our baby was born in February, and while on my (very long) maternity leave I used to take hour-long walks with my baby in the stroller. Our pediatrician advised us to make sure his skin was covered, either using the shade or with lightweight, breathable clothing and to wear a hat. He wasn't 6 months until August, so it was a no-go on the sunscreen. We were just really careful to make sure he was 'shaded' on our walks or whenever we were outside.

Not sure what you are doing in Florida, but if you're at the beach or the pool, take an umbrella. If you're going to a theme park, keep him shaded in the stroller.

I didn't want take the risk with the sunblock.

Ask your pediatrician; most sunscreens are not appropriate for infants under the age of 6 months.
