Hi M.,
I was told 6 months by my ped. :) We are going to go w/ California Baby or Arbonne for our little guy.
When are children able to wear sunscreen? My little one is almost 8 mo. Any recommendations for brands?
We decided to go for the California Baby brand. Found it at Target, but had to travel...all the other stores were out. Thanks for all of your input!
Hi M.,

The CDC came out with a press release in March about an ingredient that is considered unsafe. The press release is below along with a link to the safest and worst suncreens for everyone! the worst ones are Coppertone, Banana Boat, and many more! California Baby was highly recommended and safe.

I used Aveeno on my little guy at about the same age. I hated the Arbonne stuff, even though I usually love their products.
May I also recommend a good bucket hat? Depending on how much hair, their heads can burn too.
our ped rec. Blue Lizard we were able to use it at 6 months we have also used Khiels suncreen it is all natural and won't harm your little one if he or she eats it. having said that it is pretty expensive but i think it was worth it _ ( ok his grandma bought it for him) We have bought blue Lizard too and really like it- I think i purchased it at a walgreens in lakeview you can also buy it on line. I hope that helps
All babies should wear sunscreen But, Be very careful what kind of sunscreen you use many of them have toxins in them that can cause reproductive problems or hormone dispruptions. Check out the Environmental Working Group and cosmetics database.

I used banana boat baby sunscreen. They have a tear free kind which seemed to work really well. WE have a pool so we were outside swimming every day, and my son was 7-12 months As far as I have read and heard from the ped, no sunscreen before 6 months.

I was told 6 months. Also, that sunscreen have the effect of clogging some sweat glands in babies and make their sweating less effecient so be ure to keep them from overheating and wash it off promptly when out of the sun. We use a "barrier" sunblock as opposed to a "chemical" sunblock due to my sun's sensitive skin. If I remember correctly this means choosing a zinc oxide based brand over another chemical- I am sorry the name escapes me at the moment but if you google it you may come up with something. We use samples that my son's dermatologist gives us. Good luck.
