Sunscreen Recommendations for Extremely Sensitive Skin

My 6 year old daughter has extremely sensitive skin on her face. All the sunscreens I've tried have burned the area around her eyes; not her eyes themselves, the skin just below her eyes. She screams and complains of burning and stinging, becomes frantic within minutes of putting the sunscreen on and we end up having to wipe it off. She loves water, we spend most of the summer at the pool, going without sunscreen on her face isn't an option due to the amount of time we spend in the sun.

We've tried waterbabies, zinc oxide sticks, faces only brands - same result with all.

Can anyone recommend a good sunscreen that won't burn her face?

Thanks Mommas!

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone! We tried the Neutragena Baby today and it worked great! I think the zinc oxide stick I had was blended with some of the chemical sunscreens and that's what caused the reaction, she did great with the Neutragena baby!

I have very sensitive skin and break out in a rash with most sunscreens. I found that BioSun works really well.

My 12 month old just had a reaction to Aveeno baby and the doctor recommended Neutrogena Sensitive- we are going to give that a try. There was also a recent report on aol news about sunscreens that you may want to check out. Good luck

I have sensitive skin. Skinceuticals is good for both adult and child. you will pay up a bit, but I think it's worth it.
however, this does have some zinc oxide in it but it's a bit lighter.
also, try sunfoods.com << they have natural products on there.
or california baby.. << their sunscreen was pretty decent too.
also.. I'd put a hat on her at all times and will she wear sunglasses?
thing is. IF her skin is sensitive it probably burns easily as well..
I would definitely keep up the sunscreen regime.. also.. put it on 30 min BEFORE she is in the sun.. people make the mistake of applying it after they are already at the pool..... your skin needs a chance to soak it up properly..

My daughter had the same issues; constantly reacting to sunscreens. I finally found one by Aubrey Organics called Natural Sun - Green Tea. We've used it successfully for 2 years now with no issues. I found it in a health food store. I believe you can request samples from the company before buying an entire bottle. Good Luck!

My kids have multiple allergies and VERY sensitive skin, they have broken out with several sunscreens supposedly for sensitive skin. The only one we trust is Waterbabies, or Target brand generic waterbabies, SPF 50. We've used it for years.

Have you tried Neutrogena Baby? I've had the same problem all my life that your daughter does -sunscreen sets my face on fire! As an adult I can wear the Neutrogena Age Shield 90+ on my face with no problems and I can also wear Aveeno daily moisturizer w/ SPF 30. I use the Neutrogena Baby on my kids, and Aveeno with no complaints. You could try their baby versions if you haven't already -but I would also try the Age Shield 90+ on her. If it doesn't work -you can always use it! It's extremely gently though -for sensitive skin. I haven't tried their sun products, but I've also always had great success with Jurlique all natural skin care.

It sounds like you tried all the things I would have reccommended. So... I was thinking.....how about wearing tinted swim goggles? It would cover the area just under her eyes. or maybe some really fun sunglasses. Hope this helps. Have a fun summer.

Devita.

It's basically shea butter and zinc oxide.

try blue lizard brand "sensitive" or "face." Also, if she's willing to keep sunglasses on, those will protect the area just under her eyes. good luck!

Try going to a Whole Foods or another natural foods store. My daughter has sensitive skin/eczema and the only sunscreen that doesn't make it worse it Goddess Garden for kids.
