Super Bowl Food

I just got a call from my aunt inviting me to her super bowl party. Once I said yes she said, "what can you bring?" I'm on Weight Watcher and in the process of changing my life style and training myself to eat healthy. She's a vegetarian, although other people at the party are meat eaters. What is a cheap, healthy, easy to assemble appetizer for the Super Bowl?
Thank you!

So What Happened?

All those are great ideas and I'm excited to use them. However, my aunt called while I had my daughter in the tub and said she was having too much fun at Costco, so I just need to bring sodas =O)
I will definitely use these ideas (keep them coming) for other gathers...we know there will be plenty of them this year.
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!

I know you no longer need to bring food and that this isn't a vegetarian dish, but just for future reference, WW has a terrific recipe for BLT dip, using low fat/fat free sour cream, light mayo, chopped sweet onion, arugula (can substitute dandelion greens; cooked, chopped spinach; and, I'm sure other greens), tomato, and turkey bacon. No one will even know that it's a WW recipe. The recipe is on their website.

C.,

Fresh Fruit and veggie kabobs are always a hit. Skewer some fresh fruit like :grapes, melon, apples etc. or make veggie skewers- tomato, carrots, etc.

You can make a low-fat dip for both. Try the weightwatchers online to get recipes for the dips.

Take care,

Molly

If you like shrimp, shrimp cocktail is always yummy. I buy the frozen bags of shrimp at costco or Trader Joes and just thaw and serve with cocktail sauce. Another great WW tip is to buy the carrot chips at Safeway. They are shaped perfectly for dipping in salsa, guacomole, ranch dip etc....

In this situation, I always bring something I could and would eat. Hummus would be a good choice and many varieties to pick from if you don't have time to make your own. You can put pita chips or veggies with it. An antipasta tray with pickled olives, mushrooms, peppers, onions would be simple and easy. Perhaps a weight watcher recipe and fill and make lettuce wraps. Here's a spread I like which could be adapted to your weight watcher needs. one and half cups shredded swiss cheese, one and half cups shredded carrots, one half cup chopped nuts, one half cup raisins, mayo (I use plain yogurt) to moisten. can make small sandwiches or serve with crackers. ENJOY !

This is a relatively inexpensive recipe for vegetarian beans and is good for a crowd.

2 cans of black beans
1 can each: kidney beans
pinto beans
white beans
pinquito beans
petite cut diced tomatoes with jalapeno
shoepeg corn (white corn, a little smaller than regular kernels)
1 ½ stalks of celery, diced
½ small onion, diced
Cilantro

Drain excess juice from all cans except the tomatoes, pinquito and white beans (those have seasoned sauce). Chop and sauté celery and onion until soft and translucent. Add to beans. Chop some cilantro leaves finely and add to your taste. For seasoning, use garlic powder, red pepper, chili powder and Accent to your taste.

You can heat this on the stove or in a crockpot for convenience. Enjoy!

Deviled eggs are always a good thing to bring to a party and cheap, but is much more time consuming.

Have a great time at the party!

J.

I'm sure you've already gotten a ton of responses but the most obvious thing to bring is a fruit or veggie platter. These are items you can munch on at will and not gain an ounce! Just avoid the cute little sauces or purchase your own low cal dressing for dipping.

Try the Weight Watchers website, they always have recipes for different events. One favorite for us is the spinach dip. It can be served with veggies, bread or crackers.

Go to hungrygirl.com. I received and email the other day about recipes just for this event. HungryGirl is a resource website for WW which I also am a part of. Also Weightwatchers.com should also have recipes. Good luck!

You could bring a tray of veggies with humus dip (Trader Joes has the quartet of humus). You could also bring either a black or two of cheese or some pre-sliced cheese and some crackers. Those are easy and you can choose what you want to eat from that and what other people bring.

I do Weight Watchers also and love it!

Edamame (Japanese boiled soybeans in pods - they also sell them shelled but personally I prefer the ones in shell b/c it's fun to pop the seeds out of the pods) - you can buy them frozen from costco or trader joe's and they also sell fresh packaged ones, I think even regular grocery stores like safeway carry them.
Or how about hummus and veggies (carrot and celery sticks, broccoli florets, etc.).
Or a mixed fruit tray - Safeway has great grapes for 88 cents a pound this week.
