Sushi Restaurants

So, I've been to a few sushi restaurants and i'm SHOCKED by the prices. I know that I'm not as close to the ocean as I was in California but I still cannot believe that sushi can be twice as expensive. I keep hoping I am stopping at the expensive restaurants and to be sure I wanted to ask if anyone can reccomend a resonably priced sushi restaurant. What is reasonable?? Well, not over $200 plus for 4 people eating sushi only (no rolls no drinks). In California with Alchol and sushi it ran us about 150 or so for four of us.

What can I do next?

My father opened the first sushi rest in Dallas in 1978. He sold in and opened another one in Richardson in the early 90's...named M. after me...
He became tired of running a restaurant and now works as the head sushi chef at a restaurant on Greenville Avenue at Walnut Hill called Tokyo No Hana. Now...the sushi is not as good as when he ran his restaurant, because the owners buy diff fish, etc etc. But, it is also cheaper than his restaurant was...so...in Dallas you kind of get what you pay for. My husband and I don't go to the new restaurant too much, but for the price it is ok. Give it a try and see if it is sufficient for you for the money. Everyone is different when it comes to sushi...some people think sushi at restaurants that serve mostly frozen fish vs fresh fish is fine...others hate it. Anyway, hope this helps!

Tokyo One in Addison is all you can eat sushi bar for about $40 per person. The sushi is good (not outstanding) but this is a reasonably priced option.

Sushi Sake in Richardson is the best we've ever been to. They also seem to be more affordable.

What you should try to do is go at lunch time when sushi is half price at a lot of places.

I'm from Asia and sorry to say that the sushi choices here in the DFW area are not as good as you would think for the price you are paying. But there are some worth trying. Kampaii Sushi in Addison Circle is pretty good for the price. The owner and staff are great. Blue Fish in Plano off the Tollway has a pretty good weekday buy one get one free sushi, atmosphere during happy hour is pretty fun. For a nicer, pricier evening Tei Tei (www.teiteirobata.com)off of Henderson in Dallas is the best. Their menu is creative as well as the basics. My all time favorite in Dallas. Hope you find one that fits your style.

We go to Sushi Zushi. It's excellent and a great atmosphere. It runs us about 60 per couple. We leave stuffed and satisfied. It's in Uptown Dallas off of Oaklawn. It's worth the drive. I've also heard Genroku (sp?) in Richardson is good.

The Blue Fish on Greenville has a sushi special on weekdays only. So lunch, not dinner. It is great sushi.

Have you tried Osaka Sushi... (Park & Preston area) It's like a buffet, but still very good. For lunch it runs around $20 a person.

Also there's Sushi Sake in Richardson near Coit & Campbell. It's really good but will probably cost you a bit more, but unless you are eating a lot there's no way it should be over $200 for 4 people!!! I think usually when I got there for lunch it runs us around $25/person for just sushi & hot tea.

I like Mr. Sushi in Addison. It's on Beltline, just west of the tollway. The prices are a bit high, but they have a great loyalty program where you get a $50 gift certificate after you build up points (I forget how much you need to spend). Check it out.

Hello D.,
Me and my fiance are huge sushi fanatics so I can definatley suggest a few place. My all time favorite is Kampaii Sushi located in Addison circle. They are seriously amazing and the prices are reasonable. Another good one is Chaucer's, they are pretty good and really reasonable. Beware at night they are a bar/nightclub. My third choice would have to be Blue Fish. They are not bad quality but the prices are a little high. Dralion's in Uptown Dallas is fabulous but a little on the high end so if your looking for a romantic night out or a upscale social environment this is a great place, they have a dim lit lounge with music but again they are expensive. I have also heard of Mint's on Greenville in Dallas but I have never been there just hear about them, they are suppose to be good and cheap. Well good luck and let me know if you come across something I didnt tell u about that is good.

Irving is a bit of a drive from Plano (especially depending on where you are) but I really like Jinbeh (http://www.guidelive.com/portal/page?_pageid=33,97400&amp...) and Isshin Bar & Grill (http://www.guidelive.com/portal/page?_pageid=33,97400&amp.... Neither is that pricey, but both are very good.

PS. I'm glad to hear that your cats are doing well. If they travel well by car, then I could recommend the Cat Hospital of Las Colinas. Dr. Hague is the best and well worth the trip. I still take my cat to her even though we have moved to Carrollton.

Awaji at Park and Preston (Northeast corner, next to Studio Movie Grill) in Plano is our favorite restaurant. I eat lunch there often (close to the office) and it is a favorite place to meet up with other friends with kids for dinner. Not only are the prices reasonable, the sushi is always fantastic and the staff friendly, young children are very welcome. Unlike some of the other area place, like Blue Fish, Awaji is always very family friendly. We have a 14 month old, and the staff love to bring to new things for him to taste (fruits, crackers). We often meet up with two other families with the same age children (1 year) and we've never had a bad experience, never felt uncomfortable.

"Shogun" in McKinney (off of 75) has dollar sushi every Wednesday. We went for the first time this past Wednesday and enjoyed it very much. The staff was great and our little girl got to watch the hibachi chefs cook all night. The fire made her laugh everytime. Good Luck!!

You must go to Simon Sushi in Plano. It is at 75 and Plano Pkwy in the north east corner (by Hooters..sorry that is the only landmark I can think of over there). It is BYOB so if you do want drinks...you save a ton of money there. It is so fresh and and I think some of the best in town. They are also kid friendly if you want to take the kids along. Please check it out...you will be sooooo glad you did.
