I am looking for a place to have my four year old take swimming lessons, this would be her first time. I live in aurora area. Does anyone have any suggestions, pros/cons. I am leaning toward rush copley but wanted to here others responses. thanks
thanks for all the feedback, I am also curious of the water temperature of the delta aquatics and rush? Delta said the temp was between 80-82, is that warm enough for a four year old? Just curious what others have experienced with their children. thanks
fox valley park district does lessons at the vaughn center on indian trail.
I would definitely recommend the Dupage Swimming Center. The owner is a former Australian Olympic Swimmer. The class size is 4:1, the small pool is very warm (92 degrees) and the teachers are all nice. My kids have been taking lessons for two years here.

I just started my son at the DuPage Swimming Center about 5 weeks ago. Both of us love it! The teacher is so good with him, and I can't believe how quickly he has taken to it. I do recommend taking your daughter to a morning lesson rather than an evening lesson, because parking & the locker room get really crowded. Other than those two things, I found the price to be quite comparable, and am pleased with the instruction my son is getting.
As an aside, one of the instructors told me that he had worked with a park district before joining the staff at the swimming center. He said that hands down, the training the staff receives at the swimming center is much more thorough (instructors have to shadow someone for 20 hours before teaching a class on their own, and most are trained lifeguards) and complete than the training one receives at a park district.

I highly recommend Delta Aquatics swim lessons. It's at Oswego East HS at Wolf Crossing and Harvey Rds., very close to the Aurora line, not far from Rush Copley.
I had given up on taking my 4 year old son to the park district lessons because he cried and would not do much. They were an hour in length, which was too long for his age.
I had 3 people recommend Delta because they really work with kids no matter the level. The teachers are high school students, but they are VERY mature, good and patient with the kids, developing a great rapport with them. An adult supervisor monitors the entire session, keeping track of when students achieve their next skill level. It's based on a 10 level system. He went from screaming to not wanting to get in, to really enjoying it by the second session. They are 30 min each session. Parents watch from the upstairs pool balcony--very good viewing, yet away from them so they are focused on swimming on not crying or wanting the parents. They have about 4 students per teacher and they take turns bringing them in the water, working on the skill level they are currently. At first I was a little skeptical because they kids weren't in the water the entire session, but they rotate every minute or two and my son has gotten much more out of this than any other program. The prices are very good, too.

I have taken my almost five year old to rush copley healthplex since he was 6 months old. Its great. They have a thearaputic pool that is very warm so they don't get chilled. They move each child up a level based on skill not age...its a good program
