Swimming Lessons for 3 Year Old

I'm in the exact same boat as you are, and I read a reply to the same question from another mom the other day. She suggested Mckinney High School's swimming lessons. She said the MHS swim coach teaches swimming lessons at their indoor pool in very small groups and he's wonderful! So, I contacted the swim coach and he sent me the packet. If you want to email me directly I can send it to you! I signed my 3 yr old son up! They have 30 minute classes for 5 days, and it's only $50 for the whole week!!! And there are only 2 other 3-5 year olds in his session! And now my son is soooo excited about swimming in the pool, and he keeps asking me if he's going to swimming lessons today (everyday)! :) lol Anyway, let me know if you want the packet and coach's email address. Ditto what Shauna said. My daughter is 4 and she is also taking swim lessons at Emler this semester. We tried the YMCA last summer and it was horrible. We are building a pool now, so it's imperitive that she learns how to swim now. Emler has very structured lessons, they are positive and upbeat w/ the kids and they teachers are consistant throughout the whole semester. I work full-time too and they have tons of class times to choose from. My daughter has been doing great and even more, she enjoys it. Well worth the $$.

Check the city Parks and Recreation Dept for any of the cities around you. You can register on their websites. My daugher has taken lessons in McKinney since she was a year old and I will be enrolling her again this year along with my baby boy. I don't think the summer classes start until the end of May but I think they offer Spring classes at the indoor Senior Recreation pool and I know that Allen offers classes indoors. In Mckinney for the 3 year old class you can get in the water with your son so it is a good way for the two of you to spend time together while he is learning to swim. I also liked that they do not force the kids to do anything, it is up to them to decide when they are ready to go under etc.

I highly recommend Emler Swim School in Plano. My son is 4 and not comfortable with the water. We have been taking lessons this past semester and will do the summer classes also. He has finally come around and is really enjying being in the water. We have taken private lessons and 2 week YMCA type classes in the past, but no place has been able to compare. They have specific goals for each level and even teach water safety one week to the kids. I know the drive is a little far (we are in McKinney)but it has completely been worth it.

Summer 2007 Lessons arefrom May 28th to August 20th - total of 13 weeks of swim lessons. They offer classes 8:30am to 8:30 pm Monday -Friday and 8-2 on Saturdays. Cost $227.50 + $25 annual membership fee. (I think there is a coupon on the website).

I know a little pricey, but I can't say enough good things about them. Plus, they saw that my son was really scared of the water so they did a couple of individual (extra) classes with him to get him over his fears and they did not charge me for those extra 1/2 hour classes. They will do what they need to do to get your kids loving the water and to be successful!
