Hello,
I have a daughter who is 22 months old. When she was 10 months old we put her in Safe Start and following that she was in Sharks and Minnow classes for the summer last year. She has not swam all winter. Well... we took her swimming today and it was so nerve racking!! She was fearless! I am glad that I put her in classes so early because she is not scared at all, but now I need to take some precautionary measures!! On to my question...I am looking for a really good swim teacher (private preferred to get the most out of it) for this spring so that I do not spend the entire summer having a heart attack every time my daughter goes near a pool (she tried to just jump right in!!) I am in the Vista Lakes/Lake Nona area. Any suggestions would be great!! Thanks!

What can I do next?

I am going to enroll my son in the following that was recommended by my pediatrician. You can most likely find an instructor that will come to your house. Or you can go there for a one on one session. However, if you have them come to your home, it is twice as much. I think it is $105 application fee and $75 per week if you go to their location. For my son of 2.5 years, the instructor said it'd be 5-6 weeks training. But every child is different. And they recommend follow up refresher courses at some point. But if you have your own pool and the child swims a lot, I'd think you'd do okay without the refresher course. Following is a link to the website and you can look around and read other people's responses and see video. As well as find an instructor near you. It is called infant swimming resource. Hope this link works for you.

Check out www.infantswim.com I haven't tried this yet for my son, but will be doing so this summer. We tried Sharks and Minnows too. The instructor we had was so nice and patient, but he didn't pass to the next stage because it involved more instruction than I think he could understand at the time. My brother stumbled on to this Infant Swimming Resource website. If you can, watch the video. I was impressed that they eventually teach while the child is fully clothed. There is a place on the website where you just put in your zip code and it will locate instructors in your area.

Both of my boys went through Infant Swim Resource. I loved their instructer Peggy Woolworth. She lives in Eastwood and teaches right from her own pool. If that is too far for you the ISR website has other instructors that may be closer for you. Miss Peggy can be reached at ###-###-#### Home or ###-###-#### Cell. Here is the link if you choose a closer instructor... www.infantswim.com.
