Swingets/play Centers?

I have a 6y/o, 5 y/o and 1y/o. We currently have a 3y/o metal swingset that really needs some work if we are going to keep it. The rungs on the slide are broken and the swings need to be replaced. I would seriously love to buy a wooden swing set, but a) can't afford the super awesome ones and b) don't know if it is worth the investment. My kids love to play outside, we have a trampoline as well and they love to swing. So, my options are: 1) replace parts on the one I have; 2) buy a used amazing one in a couple of years or 3) buy a walmart one new/used and hope it lasts. I really can't afford to spend more than $400 now and if we wait until next year, I could maybe swing a grand (although it makes me a little sick to think of spending that kind of money on a swing). If I buy a new one, how much longer is my 6y/o going to be interested? What would you do? Thanks!!

What can I do next?

I don’t know which option would be the best for you but I wanted to let you know our experience. We live in a neighborhood with tons of kids ranging from 2 years to 10 years old, boys and girls. While not all the time, the older ones love to play on the swing sets, especially with the younger ones. As a matter of fact we have both a wooden and a plastic (Step 2 type) and I think the plastic one gets more use (but does not have a swing). Good luck!

If you can replace parts for cheap, I'd probably do that and then save up for one next year. I think the kids will use it for years and years. Our neighbor boys (11,8) come over all the time when my kids are out and play on our ancient (like 30 y/o) metal swingset. That thing is a beast and is still kickin', but I've been looking into getting a new one too!

Spending the money on a swingset for your kids is well worth the money, especially if they play outside a lot. Your two oldest kids will enjoy it for years, and besides, you said you have a 1YO, he/she will enjoy it for years to come too.

I know it's costly, but a safe, well-put-together, durable and active playset is worth your money (plus if you sell your house, it's good value for new homeowners, too).

Maybe you could ask about a payment plan. It's an investment in your kids outside playtime and your sanity when you need a break. I'd just work out a way to buy the most durable, safe and most fun playset.

It will probably cost you all of that to replace the parts LOL. Start looking around now for a used one. I bet you can a good one for a great deal. Are you close to a park that they can enjoy the activity centers there?
