We're (well probably me more so than my hubby) hoping to put up a swingset in our backyard this spring for our two daughters (6 & 2 yrs old). I have no clue where to start with my search!! I'd prefer to get a wood one because they look nice and seem more sturdy. I've requested a catalog from Rainbow and other than that I've done some looking arond at Toys R Us online. I would like a nice, yet not too huge or overly expensive, playset for my girls. I'd really appreciate any and all recommendations or non-recommendations!!

Thanks in advance!!

I saw a cute on at costco the other day that had a playhouse and slide swingset for 999.00. I never justufied the cost or space in my yard as the park is 2 blocks away.

We just bought the one on sale for a few more days at Costco. Cedar, free shipping/delivery. I must say it's awesome! Doesn't take up too much space in our yard, and our kids are around the same age as yours. A great value for 800 bucks.

we have the costco one in our yard at our lake house it at has held up well over the 7 or 8 years we have had it. My 10 and 11 year old don't use it much anymore but loved it at your kids age

We have a very cheap $99 metal set from Menards in our chicago backyard and the kids still play on it and it is falling apart after 9 years. best money we ever spent

I will suggest Cedar works. They are quite expensive I believe but you said Rainbow which I thought was expensive? So I thought I'd throw Cedar works out there... they have cute little stars cut out of their playgrounds. We just built our own based on some concepts.

We have this one from TRU: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4044821 We love it. It's got a very small footprint but everything that we wanted in a play structure. We got this on sale, so it wasn't that expensive.

rainbow has a sister co. and their swingsets are sold at costco. They are great and way less expensive then rainbow. We have had one for four years and we love it. It's a good investment.

If you live in a windy area, I would NOT recommend anything from Toys R Us. My neighbor's set rolled across their yard during a wind storm and splintered into many pieces. We got a heavy set from American Sale that we also staked into the ground and it didn't move.

A rainbow will last forever. You will not regret it. Make sure to get a yellow slide. The green gets too hot in the sun and burns little legs. There is a showroom in Naperville. Super fun! Also, you don't need a super big one . Any size of rainbow is fun!

We looked at Rainbow but they were too pricey and the smallest one was too big for our yard.

We got one at Lowes that we were able to design ourselves so it fit our space and we saved money by building it ourselves (although they will come out and build it for you). We have only had it for two summers but it still looks new.

Last summer, we got for free an old Rainbow set. It was old, 13 years old, to be exact. My hubby needed to replace a few pieces of wood, but save for that, the thing is as solid as they come. It is amazing, and if I were in the market to buy, I'd buy a Rainbow or something very similar. You need something that will last and that they can grow into. The set we received the kids will use till high school --I have no doubt. Giant parent size swings, two forts, etc. Two slides. It's amazing.

One option you have is the option we picked: we searched for a free set. Mind you, we then spent 2k on extras and rubber mulch, but looking for a free or used set is an option. A good friend of mine picked up a set too.

I would check your local Craigslist. My brother got a Rainbow set for 1/4 the price because the people were moving and had to get rid of it!

We bought a Rainbow system and it's really nice. We bought one of the smallest ones we could, but it has held up nice. We have had it for 4 years (this month) and my husband had to powerwash it and restain it last summer. It was not looking awful, but bad enough in our eyes that we wanted it redone. They are expensive, but quality. What ever you get, make sure it has enough to keep your 6 year old busy. In hind sight, I wish we would have gone a bit bigger. When we purchased, we had a 2 year old and I was pregnant. We now have a 3 year old and soon to be 6 year old. We have already talked about how can we add on a bit to the structure. Good luck...they are a TON of money, but they also buy you hours of sitting on the deck watching while they just play, play, play.
