My 7 week olds lab results turned out that she was lactose intolerant, so we switched to a lactose free formula. We are now using ProSobee. She has been on the new formula for a little over 24 hours and is acting differently. She is much more sleepy than usual and is very constipated. Looking to hear other mom's experience with a similiar switch!!!! How did your baby act?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Went to the Doc today and constpation is normal part of the adjustment! Suggested I give her 1oz prune juice with 1 oz water twice a day until things start moving. Yes the sleepiness, may just be contentment! Thanks for your help!!!!!!

All 3 of my kids used soy formula. They are all lactose intolerant. My first 2 we used Similac Isomil and this time around using Target brand (She is 3 weeks old currently). Much cheaper. We havent had any problems... just happier babies.

Good Luck and Congrats on your new one.

I switched my daughter to lactose free formula because she was a little constipated with her regular formula... I've never really heard it the other way around, have you googled or asked her ped. She might not have all the other formula out of her system yet since it's only been a day. I'd give her a little prune juice mixed with her formula (trust me it works lol) to get her unconstipated and then use her lactose free formula normally to see if it's really her new formula doing it or her old formula not out of her system. The sleepy thing I don't know, maybe she had a bad sleep (not restful) or maybe she's transitioning her body to the formula.

it's only been 24 hours. She may need a little more time.

As for SOY formula. There is a lot of controversy over whether soy is good or not. This website freaked me out. Says that babies fed soy formula ... they're getting the estrogen equivalent (because of baby's weight) of 5 birth control pills a day! http://www.healingdaily.com/detoxification-diet/soy.htm Just something to read up on and consider for your baby's health. I mean, there's gotta be a reason girls are getting their periods at such an early age now. I've read it could be soy, could be hormones in our meat, could be a lot of things including chemicals in sunscreen (heard that one on Dr.Oz Show).

What sort of testing did you do? For older kids I've heard of doing IgE food allergy and IgG food sensitivity testing.

Well we had to switch my son's formula a few times for the same issue and each time we started a new formula he got constipated. I think it's just their systems trying to adjust. When we started soy formula though it was great and had no more problems with rashes, mucus and had less spit up. I have heard of proSobee and I don't much about it...is it just a soy formula or does it have other "powers"? I used the generic soy from Target and had zero problems with it. Just an FYI if you want to consider it b/c it's significanly less expensive and at only 7 weeks you have many more weeks of formula ahead! ;) Although, it's one more formula switch and probably more constipation, but I think it's worth it!

I switched my daughter to soy when she was around 5 weeks. She did get a little constipated at first and her doctor told us to put a little Caro syrup in her bottle. I opted for giving her just a little bit of water each day and that took care of her constipation. When she turned 1, I switched her to almond milk (as advised by her doctor) and she's done fine!
