Switching Formula - Question

My son who is 2 months old was on Similac. I switched him to Enfamil about 5 days ago and I've noticed he eats slowly and a little bit less now. Should I switch back to Similac? Has anyone experienced this? I'm wondering if Enfamil is a little bit thicker then Similac and that might be the issue (and I should just let him get adjusted)? His pedi said there is no issue switching formulas as long as it's not soy. Thanks!

I found Similac and Enfamil to have very different textures after being mixed. Similac needed a lot of mixing and came out kind of gritty and lumpy sometimes. Enfamil mixes easier but can get a little foamy. Perhaps it's just the texture difference that's throwing her off. I wouldn't be too concerned about it unless she isn't getting enough to eat or refuses to feed.

My son (now 3) switched between formula without any problems. We usually bought Enfamil or Similac depending on what we had coupons for. One thing I noticed with him & now with my daughter is right around when there is a growth spurt they will eat like crazy for a few days, then all of a sudden they eat a little less. Maybe your son is hitting a spurt? I'd keep track of wet / dirty diapers like you did when he was a newborn. As long as he has the right # of diapers, I'd say it's safe to assume he's eating enough, and maybe there's just something else going on.

The formulas are slightly different, but the consistency is based upon how you prepare it, not the formula itself.

I had to put our daughter on formula at 12 weeks when I started chemo. We asked the pediatrician. He said all he could comment on was that the big name brands had clinical data to support their claims, and although the ingredients are the same with generic brands, they may not be in the same quantities.

We used Similac and Enfamil until we realized the cost was too much and went to the Costco brand. We had no problems switching our daughter from one to another.

Some kids have problems with gas with one or another. I'd say stick with whichever he's willing to consume and gives him the least discomfort.

Good luck.

I only used formula when I did not have enough milk for my daughter. I checked with the doc first but I was told no problems with it as long as we stuck with the same class of formula. We had no issues with it. It could be he doesn't care for the taste or just something else. If you had no problems and switched because it was available, I don't see why you would not be able to switch him back. If you use the liquid, it could be the taste. A child I watched a long time ago hated the taste of the liquid formula. Her parents could not figure out why she refused to eat.
