Any ideas for switching to a sippy cup? My one year old intially accepted, and now refuses his sippy cups in favor of his old bottles.

What can I do next?

Throw the bottles away. He will cry for a day or two... But, you can't go "back and forth". They just don't understand!

Try a straw instead. My daughter never (NEVER) used a sippy cup (due to her aspiration issues). She loves being able to use a straw; plus we don't have to carry a cup everywhere. It'll be great! :)

My daughter has a sippy cup that has a flexible straw that my grandbaby has to sort of bite on to sip. The straw doesn't leak and she loves drinking from a straw like grown ups do. The sippy cup is made by Nubi, you may want to check it out! Good luck!

I have two daughters. What I did was fail-proof both times, and has proven to work for my nieces and nephews as well. (I don't know how old your child is, so I'll just tell you what worked for me) At 11 months old, start giving them sippy cups with whole milk twice a day. At 12 months old, THROW THE BOTTLES AWAY!!! They don't care, they won't miss them. That is, if you do it at that age. If you have waited, it's going to be harder for you. But you still gotta do it. Just throw the bottles away. You're going to miss them more than they will. You will get through it, and both of you will be happier for it. :)

My daughter initially refused as well.

I started giving her a bottle in the morning and at night only. During the day I would offer her her sippy cup and no bottles at all. The first couple of days she would drink only a little, I'd give her about a half-hour and then put water in her cup instead. She would drink the water easily. After about three days she started drinking the milk out of the cup. Once she did that, I waited another couple of days and took away the morning bottle and then finally a few days later the night time bottle. I noticed with her it was very important that the sippy cup with milk was the first thing I gave her when she woke and when she was hungry. She was much more willing to drink it.

Also, the type of sippy cup makes a huge difference. She would only use Dr. Browns or Tommy Tippie. The first couple brands I tried she refused. A few friends of mine noticed that once they found the right brand of sippy cup, many of whom use one of the two I listed, it made it much easier to transition.

Hope this helps!

I would say completely remove the bottle all together. He is learning that he has options now and is deciding how to use them. Start by re-introducing the cup with out the option of the bottle. He'll get thirsty and trust me, he'll drink out of it. You may want to try several different styles of cups as he may prefer one over the other. Out of sight, out of mind was always my saying. Be sure to show praise for being a big boy while giving it to him also. Hope this helps. Good luck.

My son wouldn't take the hard top sippy cups at first. I used the soft top Nuby cups. They have a spout, but are soft like the bottle nipples. I know they are sold at Walmart and probably other retailers also. Good luck!
