My daughter will be one next month. So we decided to start the process know and get her used to it.Well at any given time she will only drink 6oz so we tried 4 oz of formula to 2 oz of whole milk We warmed it up as she will not drink her milk cold. One taste and the bottle went flying and boy did i get some nasty looks lol.Our peds said take one oz away a week of the forumla and replace it with milk, but if she won't take it what can i do. I tried putting it into her sippy and once she realized it was in there she wouldn't touch it again. any ideas or suggestions i'll try anything.

What can I do next?

My doctor always told us never to mix whole milk and formula. The way they suggested to do it was this: Give 1oz milk to 1oz water for 1 week, the next week give 1 oz just milk, the next week give 2oz for the whole week and so on until the amount of formula is replaced with milk. Hope this helps!

My kids both hate milk. My daughter is 14 months and my son is 2 1/2. I found that mixing yogurt with it, like the yogurt drinks works well. They like it and the doctor said it was fine. I don't give them huge amounts of either when I give it to them. Just a half of a cup in the morning and one later on for a snack. I tried soy milk and they didn't like that either. I tried many different times too, they just don't like it. I hate milk too, so I feel their pain. But the yogurt thing is working for us. You might want to try that.

My son never really liked milk, though he enjoys yogurt and cheese. As long as she eats plenty of other foods, milk isn't essential. We switched to calcium-fortified orange juice, made sure he was getting enough healthy fats elsewhere in his diet. He's three now, and perfectly healthy.

When i switched i was told to give my kids formula in the morning(when they first got up)at nap time, and bed time.Other than that give milk(and not to milk it with formula).I was also told to give it to them in sippy cups, don't use bottles.
But once my kids tried whole milk they refused to drink formula again so i really didn't have a problem with it....sorry no real help.Good luck to both of you.

Have you looked into that formula that is for older children? Just because your little one is turning one. Dosen't mean milk right away. Look into the formula for the next step.

I never had a problem switching over, I, myself did it cold turkey. You could try warming the bottle up and seeing if that makes a difference.

I had the same problem with my son-although the peds suggested a variety of things (carnation instant breakfast, pediasure, mixing and all that-nothing worked)
All of a sudden Daddy was drinking milk out of glass and then my son wanted some (only out of daddy's glass even though we tried pouring it directly from daddy's glass into a sippy) We transitioned this way until he got used to the taste
This of course was after the 1 week attempt 2 months prior with all the above mentioned options.
So after a few days of sampling daddy's-I mixed the bottle one night, and then the next night went straight to regular cold milk. CRAZY! I haven't turned back since and it has been 2 months straight. Good luck-I hope this helps!

My son did the same thing when I tried to gently switch him...definitely stick with what the doc says about one ounce of milk at a time, especially if it's pasturized the body takes strange to patsturized milk because the enzymes to digest it are heated out, so go gently with the switch it could take a while. One ounce added to the formula each week or two is safest. As for refusing to drink, I was told by my holistic ped. that if the child is hungery they will eat: do not be too concerned if they are refusing change, just keep offering one day they will accept. On average a child will refuse a new food 9 times before taking to it, that one was from Dr. Oz As far as nutrionally your baby is almost one and is eating solids so just make sure that you are offering enough nutrients, as for the fat intake add some olive oil or coconut oil to the food to make up for what she is missing in the milk/formula. Also, DO NOT give soy milk as one gal suggested it is very dangerous for all children, soy formula should not even be sold. Soy is proven to bring early puberty in girls and delayed in boys, it is a tool for menopausing women to add extra estrogen like compounds into their diet and women in asia feed it to their sexually insatious husbands to lull theirneed for sex. You do not have to look far for on the net for these sats about soy and the dangers of it. Sorry about the rant but the push for soy publically by the diet dictocrats is very concerning. Anyway, it took my son a few days to get him to drink the mix after that it was a breeze. Good luck and God Bless.

Hi! We are going through a simualar transition. Our ped suggested to make the transition to whole milk by mixing the formula with milk. Start with 1 part milk and 3 parts formula then move to 1/2 milk and 1/2 formula the 3 parts milk 1 part formula and then all milk. We are in the middle and so far so good. We are tring to also wean from the bottle to a sippy cup at the same time. We offer the sippy cup 1st and if she absolutly throws a fit then back to the bottle. Some days are better then others. She also did not like the change at first but don't give up hope!
