I have an almost 1 year old on November 11th. She is currently on Formula and I can't remember how it goes to switch to regular milk. Do I just stop giving her formula and switch to milk or do I gradually move her over to it?

What can I do next?

For us it was a gradual process, and I did it over a few weeks but not until my son was much older did I completely take him off the formula.

Our pediatrician said to maintain formula until at least 2 years old...so, we did until he was about 18 months.

My Doctor told me exactly what Jacy B. said.
Ditto here.
I too did the same thing, my son had the prescription "Polyvitamin" liquid drops with iron...since he was a baby too, and still takes it. (iron is important so they don't get anemia. At the 1 yr. old check-up, they do a blood test prick to check for it. At least with our Pediatrician that is their routine).

Just do it gradually... and then over time, (for me, over a month with my son), then they will acclimate to just milk.

Good luck!

My doctor told me that I could do it either way. It depends on if your daughter likes the taste of milk. This is what I did when my son turned 1 (my son is 14 months now). I started with giving him formula in his milk. As he got used to it I just stopped adding formula (at first he wouldn't drink straight milk as he was on soy formula and its so sweet). It took him about 2 weeks to go to just vitamin D milk and now he LOVES his milk bottles since he only gets them at nap time & bed time. :) My doctor did give me a vitamin supplement to give him since he would no longer be getting the vitamins from formula. Make sure to ask your doctor about it. I add my sons to his morning apple juice cup and I don't think he can tell the difference! :)

what my daughters dr told me to do was to add 2 scoops of formula to every 6-8 ounces then dwindle it down to the point where your baby is only getting milk. this way it gives them the familiar formula taste and their body gets used to the milk. i did this over a can and a half of formula and it took about a week. also your baby only needs 16 ounces of whole milk a day :) also since your baby will not be getting all the vitamins from the milk like she was from formula its a good idea to get her on a vitamin (my daughter has taken poly vi sol since birth) good luck i hope this was helpful!

Hello! I think that I switched gradually - I subbed out a bottle of formula for a bottle of milk. Also, while you are transitioning .... if you are concerned that she isn't getting enough dairy .... try the baby yogurt - I think stoneyfield farms. It might take a week or two to get her adjusted to the new taste, but my daughter loved it, so it was fairly easy. Good luck!

I have a 16 month old. On his first birthday I switched cold turkey and it upset his tummy. he had diarrhea pretty bad. They I moved to a more gradual process with 2/3 formula and 1/3 whole milk. I did that for a few days then moved to half and half and then within a week we to all milk. He loves milk and has done very well on it. I also recently cut out the bottle and he drinks it from sippy cups with and without straws. It was so nice to move to regular milk and loose the formula smell:) My boy sure does goes through a lot of milk though, about 2 gallons a week which is abotu 4 glasses a day. Doctor said that was great. Good luck!
