I was wondering if anyone switched their baby to the older baby formula that is for infants 9-24 months? I plan on switching to whole milk once my child reaches 1 year old. But I received a coupon for $10 off the next stage formula and wondered if it was something that we should try. My husband and I checked them out at the store ~ and they seemed to actually have most of the same amount of vitamins etc. Just wondering if anyone has used these any if they know what the advantage of them is? I am hesitant as the coupon is for a different brand than what we are currently using ~ and the bramd we currently use does have an older baby formula ~ but I am worried about messing with a good thing... Let me know what your experiences have been. Thank you
I agree with Deby, and I had to respond to hte corn syrup thing. ALL formula has corn syrup in it, usually the main ingredient, and usually disguised under another name. Its the main ingredient in most formula's, and the 2nd or 3rd ingredient in all other formula's.
I used whatever formula we got good coupons for, and when the kids were a little older I occasionally used the older kid formulas too. No problems at all.
I am not sure about the real differences in these, but I do daycare and use any kind. If you want to get rid of any of those checks, I will pay 1/2 value for them, and then you can use the money toward your own kind if you like.

My husband and I did the same thing. We stuck with the same brand we were already using and bought a smaller container of the older baby formula. My daughter did not have any problems with the transition so we continued to use it. When it came time for whole milk we had no problems what so ever. I would maybe check out the fat content. There is something with those that are a little different. I think they get your child's system ready to digest milk as it is not made like formulas where it is easy to digest.
We aked our doctor about this at our son's 1 year appointment, and she said it really is not necessary, to just switch to the whole milk and go with that. It really is just a way for the formula companies to make money longer and switching to milk really does save you money. So we have switched to milk and our son has been doing great with it. We use older baby formula because it is less expensive (Similac). But, I've read that some brands use corn syrup as a sweetner in older baby formula (which is why it is cheaper). I really didn't want to give my little guy all the corn syrup (not so good for anyone, especially not a baby and not for nearly 90% of their diet). Some brands have it, some do not. If that's important to you, may want to check the label.

I think the "older baby" formulas are really just a way for the formula company to keep making money once your baby is older. There's no reason why you have to use it. If you want to, that's fine. But I don't think it's necessary at all.
We switched our son to next step formula - same brand that he's always taken. We had no issues at all with switching him. However - we got a sample of another brand, and gave him a couple bottles of that and had big issues. The toddler formulas say they have different levels of nutrients than do the infant formulas because older babies need different amounts of things. I don't know whether it's a marketing ploy or not, but I figured it couldn't hurt.
My mom bought us some of the Enfamin Next Step and it made my son very constipated. Its thicker. So went back to our regular Enfamil.

I was going to switch my son to the older baby formula, but when I read that it has corn surup in it, I decided not to. The formula that I am currently using for my son is working well, I do make sure that he is getting enough of the other foods to help him to make up what he needs. My Son is good weight and is very healthy. So I am not sure if the older baby formula is really needed. I am going to be starting my Son on whole milk with in the week, as he turns 1 on June 2ed. So, what ever you decide I wish you all of the luck! :)
