Swollen Breast Tissue

Ack. So, one year ago I found a small lump, had it all checked out and it was fine. Some kind of small fat deposit (at least it was small - haha). Anyway, now last night I during my monthly breast check I found a larger swollen spot in the same breast. It is tender, and feels like something I could "pump out" if I was nursing, which of course I'm not. I have a call in to talk to my doctor, and expect to hear from her later today, but I'm curious if any of you have experienced something similar several years after weaning? It really feels like a milk duct or swollen breast tissue.

thanks for your help.
J.

Hi J..

I had a simlar situation before I had a baby. I found a small lump which was just fatty tissue. Then I started having a discharge which freaked me out. My doctor sent me for a galactogram which revealed fibrocystic breast tissue around the milk ducts. The weird thing is the discharge went away shortly after the diagnosis. I still keep on top of "the girls" diligantly due to my family history. Good luck.

This happened to me when I was still breast feeding...they did a ultrasound on my breast and could tell it was not a solid mass but a liquid one and did a needle aspiration to remove the fluid. No big deal at all and solved the problem.

I get them occasionally, as well as I have cysts. Normally swelling around my period time and for about 4 to 5 days afterward. They tend to be warm, very painful and tender, and range from pea sized, to marble. If they seem any different from the norm I go in and have it check out. Its just for my peace of mind. They always tend to be the same thing though, but my doc never gets testy, she always says safe is better than sorry.
