I am a working mom and trying to find a t-ball program for my four year old who loves to play baseball. Hopefully in or near Sterling Heights. Most of what I have found starts at age 5 or higher. Does anyone know of a program that I could try?
The best suggestion that I have is to reach out to those programs that you have found. If they have no exceptions on kids playing up, then they might know of a recreation center or local league that does start at 4.
The Joe Dumars Fieldhouse does offer t-ball and might be a good option for you as well.
You can call the city or rec department and ask but I'm pretty sure most leagues start at 5.
5 is usually the youngest they can start.
Where I live, both Little League and Pony League start at 4. Our cutoff is April 30, so he will need to turn 4 by April 30 of this year to play.
5 seems to be the age they start here in SoCal, my DIL said the same where they are in NJ. I've found six-week clinics where they teach the basics, there's no coach, it's real basic.
What about the YMCA?
I know my sons friends with late birthdays (missed the local program cut offs) were able to play soccer thru the Y. Maybe they do baseball too?
See if your area has "Blastball." It's similar to t-ball, but geared for the younger crowd. Around here the league for that is 3-4 years.
My son has been playing PONY baseball (starting at T-ball level) here in SoCal (Orange County) since he was 3. The leagues in our area all start that young, including Little League. I'd look to see if there is a PONY league in your area. For the under 5 set, it's more fun than competitive, and really gets them into the spirit of the game.
Wow, our T-Ball is for 4 and 5 year olds, at 5/6 they start parent pitch then on to machine pitch.
Try the YMCA. Ours has a great T-Ball program for the 3, 4, and 5 year olds. They don't play for points nor are there any outs. They play to learn good sportsmanship and to work as a team, learn the rules, all sorts of stuff like that.
