There is a website called www.housefairy.org It is really cute and is great for kids of all ages. You should take a look at it. Most nights we have no problem getting my almost 3yo to pu toys before bed, partly because it is a nightly routine and also because if he doesn't he won't get to do what he wants (bath, milk, singing a song, whatever it is he wants that night).

I take my kids toys away and "throw them away" if they don't keep them picked up, etc. I put the toys in a garbage bag, and hide them in the garage. They don't follow me into the garage to see where I actually put them. If you want to 100% get rid of them, donate them to a charity. There is a place in Mesa called Child Crisis Center that takes care of abused children, and they take donations.

i think throwing them away or threatening to throw them away has different implications on the kids. what my mom did with everything we owned or had was just give us the responsibility. Basically she would give us toys and it was our job to keep them taken care of and if not we knew we weren't going to get more. It was the same with special treats like cookies, once they were gone, they were gone, so we had to learn to ration. I always took good care of my toys. Maybe just make sure you don't get them so many toys they feel complacent about them. make their toys special. and if they already have too many, maybe you should go through a "cleaning out" of those toys and make sure they understand toys are priveledges and should be treated nicely or they won't have any? hope that helps.

I had the same problem with my daughter for awhile. I would have her put them all in a trash bag & hid it. I wouldn't tell her I was throwing them away because she had the right to work back her toys slowllllly. This ended up finally working when her favorite puppy got put away for 2 months. Also I found she had to many toys that she was overwhelmed with. We sat down one day & went through her toys together getting rid of ones she was to old for or broken. Then she kept what she wanted we donated the rest. Now we do this every 6 months. It has really help. I also got rid of her toy box. That was a disaster if she wanted one thing it was usually in the bottom. At walmart the sell big 3 drawer clear bins. I sort her toys in this & have labeled them. Now everything has a place. The bins are really cheap to under $20.
