Hi! My 2 1/2 year old daughter has been taking off her diapers and pajama's during naptimes and at bedtime. Often times she ends up wetting the bed. This has been going on for 2 months and I am getting tired of changing her bed and continuing to put on her diapers and pajama's. I have tried telling her if she does it, she can't watch her favorite t.v. show Dora The Explorer. This worked for a short time. Now I am letting her fall asleep naked, praying she doesn't have an accident. Then before I go tho bed, I put everything back on. This isn't working either! She is very smart and thinks this is a fun game. Any suggestions???

What can I do next?

My daughter didi this too for awhile, I started putting her footie PJ's on backward with the zipper up the back so she couldn't get them off until she grew out of it.

I had the same problem until my own wise mother suggested that I put my then 2 year old in zip up jammies and safety pin the zipper closed. Worked like magic and I wondered, why hadn't I thought of that?! Good luck.

She sounds like she's ready to be potty trained. I would stop giving her fluids about a half hour before nap time and an hour before bed time. Try taking her potty before she goes to sleep. Put a bed pad under her until she has woke up dry a few times. Hope this helps!

My Daughter who is now potty-trained and will be 3 in April used to do that all the time. Every morning or when she would wake up from nap we would find her naked and all messy because she would have wet or gone potty after removing the diaper. What we finally did was put her back into a onesie under her clothes. She was not strong enough to unsnap the snaps and after about 2 weeks we stopped using the onesies and it seemed as though she just forgot about removing her diaper altogether.

Hi, my 2 year old daughter was doing the same thing. How I stopped this was, I went to babies r-us and bought these child proof safety pins. I would pin her fleece sleepers about 2 inches from the top, across the zipper. This way, she couldn't pull the zipper down. I also watched her the first time I put it on, to make sure she couldn't undo the safety pin. They are pretty hard to unlatch. Just a thought, although this would only work on the sleepers with feet and with a zipper from top to bottom. Hope this helps.

my son did this a few times when he was 2 or so... I think he got hot and didn't want to be hot anymore so he fixed the situation by getting naked ! Make sure she isn't too hot when she sleeps... she may run hotter than you think. Try the pins and putting stuff on backwards. Good Luck !

Cut the feet off her one piece PJ's. Then put them on backwards so that the zipper goes up the back! Also onises on backward may help. Children's Place makes them up to size 4T.

Years ago our pediatrician suggested we build a better mousetrap. What he meant by that was that we should Zip our daughter's pajama suit on backwards so that she was unable to take it off. This phase fortuately passed before summer when zippered warm pajamas became too hot.

My friend's daughter did this! My friend would put her daughter's diaper on backwards. Then put a onesie on her, then her p.j.s... It seemed to work for them. Good luck!

My daughter, who is now in her second year in college, did that as well. It was easy to correct. We changed her pj's to only using pj's with zippers (the footed kind). We bought them a size to big and put them on backwards. This is what the doctor recommended and it worked like a charm. Good luck!

P.S. Save the frustration and diffcult fixes for the really big problems :-)

T., you just described my daughter about 8-9 months ago. She was in daycare at the time and I received a call to inform me that my daughter had stripped naked at naptime. Not only did she strip, she had a messy diaper and decided to paint everything (including herself) with poop! I bought some diaper pins and started pinning the zipper on her PJs underneath the zipper protector. Of course I had to put her in PJs for nap too, but a small price to pay. The first couple of days she got really pissed when she couldn't get out of her PJs but settled down. I continued to pin them for about 4-5 months. She seems to have forgotten about getting naked now, thank goodness! I tried duct taping her diaper and even putting it on backwards, but she would grab the top of her diaper and pull down until something gave. I hope this helps.

Hi! T.:
My son is 22 months and I was having the same problem. He was taking off his pants then his diaper. I got alot of great ideas from Mamasource. I bought some Papmers Easy Ups; they don't velcro and he hasn't even bothered trying to take them off! Try them, they may work for you also.
Good luck!

get her some new pullups or goodnite that look like real under pants and tell her she is a big girl now and she must tell you when she needs to go to the bathroom make a big deal about her wearing big girl panties and big girls don't wet or take off her panties. this might work because they look like panties and not diapers so she should leave them on at nithg and naps. they will still give you the support of a diaper that will soak up the unrine. Hope this works for you it did for me. good luck.

My oldest boy did the same thing when he was about a year old, until I got a great idea. I took some of the one-piece footed pajamas, cut off the feet, and put them on him backward, with the zipper in the back. It works best if the PJ's are a little large on him, so the neck is not too tight in the front. It solved the problem wonderfully, but it sure made my son mad for a while! He got over it, though.

Hi T.,

My 2 1/2 year old daughter was doing this about 6-8 months ago. I know it is not much help but it did pass after a couple months and she didn't do it every single time. The worst is when I woke up one morning and went in her room and found a poo on the floor! Needless to say, my husband and I just kept telling her that this behavior was unacceptable and she eventually stopped. I did try the ducktape and my daughter managed to get out of it! We had been out of onesie pajamas so long that I didn't even want to bother getting zippered pj's. She has done it once since, but no big deal. I had initially though it was a sign that she wanted to potty train. Have you talked to her about that? I know it sucks....but hang in there.

Just curious, Have you tried putting her diapers on backwards, securing it with a strip of duct tape, along with a onesie on backwards. I used this with all 4 of mine and it works wonders as they are unable to reach the snaps nor do the have the dexterity to pull of the tape. Consider to that she may just be hot so try the diaper thing, let her fall asleep like that then cove her with a light blanket.
Best Wishes
