Taking Toddlers to a Live Show

Hi Moms,
Found out today that there is going to be a Thomas and Friends live show in our area in May. My son and daughter are 3 and 2. Is it worth it to take such little ones to a show like this? Do you have to purchase the "best" seats in order for it to be worthwhile? If you have taken young kids to a show like this, was it worth it? My kiddos love Thomas, so we'd like to take them. But, we can't help but wonder if they are too young... Thanks!

What can I do next?

I took my daugther to see Elmo when she was either 2 or 3. She loved it. So worth the money to see how much she loved it. And let me tell you....it was lots of money!!

They will have hyper focus on everything. Those shows are designed for little ones and often with an intermission built in. Buy cheap glow sticks and give them to the kids. They will want EVERYTHING they see because it just a giant money grab just like any Disney producion. It's best to be prepared and "try" to have the "we're not here to SHOP" discussion.

You don't need the best seats. Those productions are big and so are the costumes/sets. They could even possibly have a giant screen behind the stage.

We did Yo Gabba Gabba when my son was barely three years old and he was so excited he literally thought he could jump over the balcony and JOIN the show. I REALLY could have lived without THAT part but it's like me at a Rick Springfield show. Somehow I always figure out a way to the front, right under his mic stand!

We took our daughter to see the Imagination Movers when she was almost 2. She had so much fun and even got to meet Mover Rich! We didn't get the best seats and they interacted with everyone in the audience. It was great. Even my husband who listens to bands like, Deep Purple, Queen, Judas Priest etc was really enjoying himself and said that we would go again if they were in the area. He especially liked watching my daughter laughing and dancing to their music.
DEF GO!!! If they both love Thomas they will have soooo much fun! Make sure to take lots of pictures! It will be worth just the look on their faces. It's amazing! HAVE FUN!!!

Yessss. It is definately worth it. I'm not sure if you guys ever heard of the Universoul Circus, but I took my the 13 month old to see it. His eyes was glued on everything that was going on. The animals, lights, clowns, etc, he took it all in!!! I think having 3rd row seats had a lot to do with it, but it was well worth it. I think you should take them! They'll love it. :)

Take em. Just took my oldest to Imagination Movers a month or so ago and we both loved it, sort of wished I had taken the younger one too. They don't expect you to sit. I actually chose the seats at Verizon @ GP right on the upper level at the railing, it's a cable railing, and then there was nobody in front of us. It was further back but you could still see everything.

My daughter was 2 when we went to her first live show and 3 at the next and she LOVED, loved, loved them! I'm not familiar with the Thomas show, but I'm sure it will be loved, especially if they already love the charcter. I would prep them for darkness and loud noises, but other than that it will be a blast. As far as seats, I would look at the venue. I know with the Disney on Ice show all the seats were really pretty good, even though I thought we were going to be far away, we weren't. You may have to talk to a real person or look at a diagram of the stage, but I think most seats are pretty good at things like this. Have fun!

With the 'live' Thomas, they may be scared...depending on the costume they use. 3 years old I think would be fine. 2 years old, I would be concerned of them not wanting to sit still enough to enjoy the show. Who knows, your kiddos may surprise you. :-)

We took our son to see Bob Live (also HIT entertainment) when he was 3. It was geared towards kids. Lots of involving the kids and getting them to yell, clap and sing along. Our son did fine and we saw lots of families with more than one toddler. Shows like that are filled with kids, they are not expected to sit silently through it all. Just beware, they sell lots of things that are eye catching and light up and pricey! Our son handled it ok because we prepared him for it before hand, but we saw lots of crying kids who wanted the stuff that lights up.

I have taken my kiddos to the Ice Show (Disney) 2 times -- once when DD was 2.5 years old and once when DD was 3 and DS was just 22 mos. They both loved it! I would say that you don't have to buy the best seats in the house because some kids get freaked out by up close characters....maybe midway back or so. Depending on the height of your 2 year old and the venue's restriction, that one might be free (my son was for the ice show). Enjoy!

IMO too young especially together. Possibly the 3 yo alone, but together
you will have your hands full.
