These are medications my Dr wants me to take. Just got RX today. Haven't filled them yet. You can look at my past posts for background. I've had Chemo, Double Mastectomy, Radiation Ect. Tamoxifen is to keep hormones at bay (side effect Hot Flashes which are already Off the Chain).. Effexor is to combat hot flashes. I'm googling for more info. Just wanted some feedback from anyone that has taken this medication. I hate taking pills & dealing with all the possible side effects. Just give me a Xanax so I won't rip someones head off!!! Just Kidding :) Thank Ya'll

What can I do next?

The Tamoxifen is very important to take. You would be crazy not to take it. See how the hot flashes go. I have several friends on Tamoxifen without any problems. If you get hot flashes try the other drug.

I took the Tamoxifen for the five years and understand your take on pills. I did not have hot flashes. Doctor prescribed Paxil for me as needed for a chemical imbalance.

As for the Effexor I had a script for it from my OB/GYN and it was not for me. The side effects were vivid dreams, hallucinations, rapid heart beat and sweats. It took a good two months to wean off of the med even though I went cold turkey.

These two prescriptions were not issued at the same time.

Check with your doctor for another one other than Effexor. Note: Effexor is also used by drug addicts trying to kick the drugs.

Hope you find something that works for you.

Tamoxifen is a drug I've seen other women take that helps them after cancer. I don't know exactly what it's for but it's one I've seen several people go on after cancer treatment.

The Effexor, it's an older antidepressant, been around a LOT of years. It's still on the market and being used so that says it's useful and not something that has a bunch of side effects associated with it.

Take and see how you feel.

A friend of mine had breast cancer. She took tamoxifen when she finished radiation. She took it for at least 4 yrs but had to stop because she developed a blood clot in her leg. I do not recall her having a lot of side effects from it. Unfortunately her cancer came back in her neck bones about a yr later and she lost her battle. I think there was a time limit for how long she would have taken it if she had not had to stop due to the clot. Maybe another year or 2? I cannot remember exactly.

Effexor is also used as an antidepressant and for anxiety. I suggest taking the effexor may give you some of the relief you get from Xanax without the side effect of sleepiness once your body is used to it. I have taken Effexor for depression and anxiety and found it helpful.

I took Effexor for about a year for severe depression until the side effects started. The brain shocks were too much to take and my psychiatrist took me off the med and switched me to something else. Something to keep in mind and to talk to your doc about is how difficult it can be to go off Effexor. Get lots of info before you start taking it.
