I use bottled water for my babies, regardless of where i live
Hi everyone - I live in O'Fallon, MO and my mother-in-law just told me about some big water/toxin/baby death ordeal about 10 years ago, that something in Weldon Springs' area's water was possibly linked to increased baby deaths because moms were using tap water to make the formula. Does anyone know about this? Do you all use tap water or bottled? Or some kind of filtered?? I just stopped breast feeding and switched to formula, and have been using tap water until she put the fear of god in me! Now I don't know what I should be doing. Any advice??

Hi,
I'd never heard of this but I've not lived in this area that long. I did google it and there is some info.

if the link doesn't work copy and paste into your browser. Go to the 4th one down that comes up and it discusses all the testing they're doing and it's on wells for the most part. There are more links you may want to read.... if in doubt do the bottled water to be safe and have your peace of mind.

I have actually heard that tap water is better monitored than bottled water. Also, I heard that tap water (as opposed to bottled or filtered) is preferred because it has flourides that your baby needs. You may want to do some on line research or ask your pediatrician about it.
Hi B.,
I do remember this issue about the water in that area being in the papers several years ago, but it seems that nothing much became of it, from what I remember there were a lot of suspicions but never any proof one way or the other, I haven't heard anything about it since then.
Maybe if your doctor is in St Charles he/she will remember more about it, and have a good recommendation. I would think filtered might be the way to go, because then you don't have to worry about the plastics issue, I've heard that bottled water is missing flouride so if you decide to go that way you'll want to discuss it with your ped'n anyway.
Best of luck to you and your baby!

I, too, live in O'Fallon and every year the water district sends out a report listing the amounts of any particles in the water. Every year the trace amounts in the water are well below the federal guidelines for safety. We have a filter on our fridge for drinking water, but for cooking, Kool-Aid, etc. we use it straight from the tap. There is actually rising concern over bottled water linked to the BPA issue. Even though the consumer may be storing the water properly, it could get heated in transit or storage so there is an increased risk of the chemicals in the plastic leaching into the water. If you're concerned about O'Fallon's water, I would use a filter on your tap but avoid bottled.
I work in O'Fallon and there was something 8 years ago or so with the water. They have filters on all the taps etc... I wouldn't be overly concerned about it. I would just get a filter for your primary tap.
I dont live in O'fallon, but I use the Brita Filter pitcher.
I do not live in your area, but my doctor told me to first let the water run for one minute if you are using a sink on the first floor (and two minutes if from a sink on the 2nd floor). So that's what I always did when making bottles. -A.
Wow, I live in Wentzville and use tap water! My baby is 7 months. Our doctors office is also in the area, and they have never said anything, but Iv never asked. Now Im curious. It sort of worries me, but Im sure plenty people have raised their babies in this area with no problems. Im going to research that though.
